Sun Microsystems has announced new customer adoption of its breakthrough Sun Fire server family with CoolThreads technology. DigiTar, Joyent and Fotolog represent a new crop of Web 2.0 customers that have recently moved to the UltraSPARC T1 processor-based Sun Fire server line running the Solaris 10 Operating System(OS), the most advanced OS on the planet, to both support their growing online operations and to lower power, cooling and space costs significantly in their datacenters.

Microsoft and Creative Commons, a nonprofit organization that offers flexible copyright licenses for creative works, have teamed up to release a copyright licensing tool that enables the easy addition of Creative Commons licensing information for works in popular Microsoft Office applications. The tool will enable the 400 million users of Microsoft Office Word, Microsoft Office Excel and Microsoft Office PowerPoint to select one of several Creative Commons licenses from within the specific application.
Web 2.0 Journal: IBM Opens First Development Laboratory in Russia
IBM Chairman & CEO Samuel J. Palmisano has opened IBM's first development lab in Russia as the company continues to increase its investment in high-growth countries. IBM will invest $40 million over the next three years in the Russian Systems & Technology Laboratory, which will employ up to 200 people by the end of 2008. The lab will focus on mainframe technology development and continues IBM's emphasis on utilizing skills and expertise around the globe, especially in high-growth countries such as Russia, Brazil, China and India.
