This session will provide
attendees with an
overview of the iPhone
SDK, including discussion
of the App Store, Apple's
planned distribution
channel for SDK
applications. Keep in
mind that the contents of
the SDK and experiences
while using it are
covered under NDA, so be
prepared for me to talk
in generics and leave out
specific details that
might be covered by the
NDA. I am planning on
providing a quick
introduction to
Objective-C for those
attendees who may have
never seen it and might
be worried that it will
be difficult to code in
(it isn't!).
In keeping with the
longstanding SYS-CON
tradition of being at the
very forefront of
software development with
all its online and
offline resources,
SYS-CON Media & Events
jointly today announced a
double whammy, launching
both 'Open Web
Developer's Journal' (htt
p://openweb.sys-con.com)
and 'Open Web Developer
Summit' (http://openweb.s
ys-con.com) - to be held
for the first time in New
York City April 21-22,
2008.
Welcome to the second
part of this 3-part
article. Much has
happened since I wrote
the first part: for
instance, I am now a
member of the Web 2.0
Workgroup and I will be
speaking at SYS-CON's SOA
Web Services Conference &
Expo 2006 in New York
City in June. Many thanks
for all your feedback to
the first article.
Conducting small business
on the Internet is still
too complicated. Women
who want to launch a
part-time career to
augment their earnings,
or who desire to create a
full time business from
the Web face an immense
learning curve of
technology and services
that stop many cold. The
Internet is a prime
opportunity for women to
create their own
enterprises and it is a
growing market, yet
according to the Kaufman
Foundation Index of
Entrepreneurial Activity,
women tend to
substantially trail men
in the creation of new
businesses. A new web
resource offered by Web2
Corp and its Chamber of
eCommerce division may
help to even things up.
Essentially, a smaller
screen within the main
screen on the desktop can
display content
originally targeted
towards the mobile
device, or more
importantly, originally
created on a mobile
device. You can view it
as 'widgetizing the
mobile Web'. The
possibilities for such a
product from a mobile
perspective are very
interesting, starting
with the fact that you
could widen the
distribution channels for
mobile content.
I see Web 2.0 as the
Intelligent web or
'Harnessing Collective
Intelligence.' Mobile Web
2.0 extends the principle
of 'Harnessing Collective
Intelligence' to
restricted devices. The
seemingly simple idea of
extending Web 2.0 to
mobile Web 2.0 has many
facets, for instance:
The Mobile web 2.0
spotlight is a collection
of the best
services/products in
relation to Mobile Web
2.0, as I see it. In
addition, I am also
especially keen to
highlight products from
start-ups / emerging
companies in this space.
I am happy to receive
your recommendations for
excellent products /
services in the Mobile
Web 2.0 space. As you can
imagine, the analysis is
completely independent.
If I have any affiliation
with a company / product;
I shall state that in the
blog.
In this article, Ajit
Jaokar contends that -
since his e-mail,
calendar and other
applications are on the
web, and he can store all
his documents on the web
too, all he needs is a
browser. 'One client to
rule them all! Thus,
today I would use a
'browser-only' PC,' he
declares.
Since I have an interest
in Mobile Web 2.0 (and by
extension with Web 2.0 in
general), I get some
interesting reactions
from people. Everyone has
a view on Web 2.0 - it's
almost getting to the
stage that we can't
discuss religion,
politics AND Web 2.0!
Anyway, here are two
recent incidents...
