RightScale Delivers Critical Cloud Computing and MySQL Database Management Capabilities

RightScale Manager for MySQL Enterprise Provides High Performance Database Operation in the Cloud

RightScale announced RightScale Manager for MySQL Enterprise, an offering designed to make it easier for organizations to deploy MySQL databases in the Amazon Web Services cloud. Starting July 1, RightScale customers will receive the benefits of RightScale’s automation and scale-on-demand cloud management platform, coupled with MySQL Enterprise premium-level support for large database applications. RightScale Manager for MySQL Enterprise delivers pre-configured templates for all the components needed to provide high performance, reliable database operation that is fully backed by MySQL Enterprise software and support.

“RightScale has been successfully working together with Sun’s database group for some time,” said Michael Crandell, co-founder and CEO of RightScale, Inc. “Our new MySQL offering delivers the highest cloud computing performance with the world’s most popular open source database -- a great step for our joint customers that require enterprise-grade support. By integrating the RightScale cloud platform with the award-winning MySQL database, business customers have all the benefits of the cloud, including access to a virtually infinite level of scalability, flexibility, dependability, and performance, all at a low cost.”

“We share similar goals with RightScale – to help shape cloud computing to solve challenging business problems by delivering scalable, open solutions based on great technology and backed by superior support,” said Zack Urlocker, VP of Products, Database Group, Sun Microsystems. “We are pleased to co-offer MySQL Enterprise’s benefits, targeted for the corporate cloud environment.”

Deploying scalable, reliable applications from scratch in the cloud is a time consuming and expensive task. As a result, most organizations do not have the expertise or resources to deploy and manage cloud computing applications cost effectively and according to best practices. With RightScale's platform, any organization can tap the enormous power of Amazon's cloud for a virtually infinite, affordable, "pay-as-you-go" IT infrastructure. RightScale's offerings provide the following core benefits:

  • Rapid Deployment
  • Dynamically Scalable Infrastructure
  • Minimal Recourses Needed

Note: while RightScale does provide the ability to scale to "infinite servers", it does so only for front-end webserver configurations and back-end "batch job" servers, not for databases. MySQL support seems limited to helping fail-over between Master and Slave databases, with continuous replication between 2 running servers -- not scaling to hundreds of database servers as needed. Just a clarification, the article is unclear on this.
