Verizon Workers Go on the Air in Support of Legislation Requiring That Telecom Deals be in the Public Interest

PORTLAND, Maine, June 8 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- A message from unions representing Verizon workers is on the air this week, focusing the public's attention on a bill pending in the state legislature that would require any telecom deal to be in the best interests of all Maine residents.

The pending bill -- LD 1866 -- will likely be voted on next week.

The 60-second ad will be aired during drive time and evenings from June 5 to June 12 in Portland on WGAN and WLOB.

The ad is sponsored by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), a union that represents about 950 telephone workers in Maine and many more throughout New England. CWA also represents telecom workers in New England and throughout the United States.

The ad alerts listeners to Verizon's plan to sell to FairPoint and informs the public about the need for LD 1866.
