Mobile Commerce News Weekly – Week of August 17, 2014

The Mobile Commerce News Weekly is an online newsletter made up of the most interesting news, articles and links related to mobile commerce and marketing, mobile payments, mobile money, e-wallets, mobile banking, mobile ads and mobile security that I run across each week.  I am specifically targeting market size and market trend information.

Recent research from a firm called Intercede has revealed that following the Heartbleed online and mobile security issue, only 18 percent of consumers in the United Kingdom feel confident that their use of m-commerce and smartphone based payments are actually secure.  Read Original Content

In June 2013 mobile transactions represented 3.8 percent of the total e-commerce pie in Brazil — by June 2014, that number had gone up to seven percent.  During that period, 2.89 million transactions were carried out, the equivalent to R1.13 billion ($497 million), according to the report WebShoppers by consultancy firm e-Bit.  Read Original Content

Shipments of wearable devices are expected to hit 135 million in 2018, according to forecasts from CCS Insight. By comparison, last year 9.7 million wearables were shipped, a number which is expected to grow 129 percent in 2014, to 22 million.  Read Original Content

The multichannel retailers that are including shops and a website to sell saw sales via mobile rise by 79 percent in the period from January to June, according to a study by Capgemini and IMRG, while those who only sell via a website saw their m-commerce sales lift by 59 percent.  Read Original Content

Amazon has begun offering a new mobile-centric service that will allow merchants in the physical world to accept payments made from a mobile device. The service is called Local Register and is designed to compete with similar services being offered by PayPal and Square. Read Original Content

Ukash, the online cash payment provider, has announced it is partnering with ZapZap in order to provide smartphone consumers with a mobile wallet that will allow them to manage and spend their vouchers from Ukash even if they aren’t sitting in front of a PC.  Read Original Content

The U.S. Federal Trade Commission has released a new report focused on the mobile commerce space. According to the report, mobile commerce applications lack the mechanisms necessary to resolve payment disputes coming from those that use them.  Read Original Content
