WACO, Texas, Aug. 18, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Baylor University, Baylor Athletics, Extreme Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: EXTR) and YinzCam today announced that the University's new $260 million on-campus McLane Stadium, with a capacity of 45,000, has been outfitted with a robust Wi-Fi network and custom mobile applications that will enhance the in-game fan experience like never before.
Officials from Baylor, Extreme Networks, technology integrator Solid IT Networks and YinzCam have rolled out the Baylor In-Game App, the first college athletics application to provide instant replays from multiple views to Baylor fans, right at their seats, at McLane Stadium. This combination of Wi-Fi gear, software applications and content, sponsored by Baylor University, is the same technology used by the world's leading professional sports teams.
By delivering on its vision for an immersive fan experience, Baylor fans attending the Bears' inaugural football game at McLane Stadium at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 31, against SMU will have the freedom to enjoy their wireless devices – whether that is a smartphone, tablet or laptop computer – and gain access to customized applications like the Baylor In-Game App that will enrich their experience through in-seat mobile video replays, team information, customized camera angles and up-to-the-minute real-time statistics.
- Extreme Networks and YinzCam have a rich history of delivering in-game Wi-Fi and custom in-stadium applications.
- The Baylor Bears "In-Game" application by YinzCam will be available for fans to download in the stadium to watch videos, news and in-seat replays of the action from multiple views over the Wi-Fi network, and to follow key real-time statistics of the action. In addition, fans can stay connected to their team 24x7 through the new Baylor Bears In-game app.
- Wi-Fi coaches will be present throughout the stadium to assist fans with connecting their mobile devices to the network. A select team of 20 students from Baylor University's Hankamer School of Business Information Systems (IS) Department will be wearing bright vests on game days to help fans who would like to configure wireless to get on the network and use customized services.
- Extreme Networks has installed its high-density IdentiFi™ Wireless solution to provide free Wi-Fi access to fans at McLane Stadium.
- The Extreme Wi-Fi system is designed to support high density requirements, including high-speed connections for streaming content and uploading photos, support of social engagement and in-venue mobile application delivery.
- McLane Stadium is equipped with an AT&T-powered distributed antenna system, or DAS, that will give fans optimal cell phone service and reception from any point in the stadium. AT&T extended offers to other major mobile carriers to use the system, and Verizon has already committed to participate.
