New Export Opportunities in Ukraine for Canadian Livestock Producers

OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 05/22/14 -- Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada

Canadian livestock producers will benefit from new export opportunities in Ukraine with the signing of an arrangement allowing exports of pure-bred sheep and goats. Canadian sheep and goat producers can now expand their sales into this market, while also benefiting Ukrainian breeders who will have greater access to Canada's top quality livestock genetics.

Canadian livestock breeders will also benefit from an updated and improved veterinary health certificate for export of pure-bred cattle to Ukraine. This will maintain the access to this market that was first secured for Canadian exporters in August 2012.

Quick facts

-- In 2013, Canadian exports of agriculture and food products to Ukraine
were valued at $75 million. Two-way trade between Canada and Ukraine has
increased by 65 per cent between 2008 and 2013.
-- In 2013, Canada exported over $1.5 million in live breeding cattle to
    Ukraine.
