MOOSE JAW, SASKATCHEWAN -- (Marketwired) -- 05/20/14 -- Department of Canadian Heritage
The Government of Canada is providing $12,945 in funding to the Association communautaire fransaskoise de Moose Jaw (ACFMJ) for its project involving a visual arts exhibit by artists from Moose Jaw and the surrounding area.
The project will offer visual arts training in French to young people by facilitating access to Francophone and Francophile artists from the region. The bilingual exhibit created through this project will also increase visibility of and access to the works of artists from Moose Jaw's Francophone and Francophile community.
Ray Boughen, Member of Parliament (Palliser), made the announcement today on behalf of the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages. The Government of Canada is providing this financial support through the Community Life component of the Development of Official-Language Communities Program.
-- The ACFMJ is organizing around a dozen workshops given by two Francophone from the community in April and May. These workshops on painting and ceramics will be offered in French to about 20 students at three schools in Moose Jaw: Ecole Ducharme, St. Margaret School, and Palliser Heights Elementary School. -- A bilingual exhibit featuring the works of the children and their mentors will be presented at the Town 'n Country Mall in Moose Jaw for the three weeks from June 21 to July 12, 2014.
"Moose Jaw's Francophone and Francophile community is alive and well, thanks in part to the work of groups such as the Association communautaire fransaskoise de Moose Jaw. I would like to congratulate this organization, which is undertaking this project in collaboration with community partners to ensure that youth have access to arts training in French and that Francophone and Francophile artists in the region receive greater visibility."
-The Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages
"I am proud that our Government is supporting the efforts of the Association communautaire fransaskoise de Moose Jaw. Through this exhibit, residents and visitors will have access to the works of Francophone and Francophile youth and artists from our community, thereby contributing to the vitality of French in our region."
-Ray Boughen, Member of Parliament (Palliser)
"We would like to thank the Government of Canada for the financial support provided to us for this new project in the region. It's wonderful to see our youth have the opportunity to work with arts professionals. Often it is the arts that are overlooked, so giving young people the chance to express themselves in French and be creative is a great thing."
