Bridgewater, NS to participate in March 31 Day of Action to protect health care

BRIDGEWATER, NOVA SCOTIA -- (Marketwired) -- 03/29/14 -- CUPE is urging citizens in and around Bridgewater and the South Shore to take part in a national 'Day of Action' to protect our health care system.

On March 31, the 10-year Health Accord negotiated between the federal and provincial governments in 2004 will expire. CUPE Nova Scotia President Danny Cavanagh says, "The federal Conservatives have refused to negotiate a new Accord with the provinces. Worse, they announced a $36 billion cut in health care transfers over the next ten years.

"All across the country, citizens and groups will gather to protest these cuts and call on the Harper government to show some leadership in order to protect and expand our public health care system."

Here's how you can take part:

-- 11:00 am - Noon: Leafleting at South Shore Regional Hospital,
Collaborative Health Care Centre, Atlantic Superstore & Sobeys

-- Noon - 1:00 pm: Rally in parking lot of MP Gerald Keddy's office
(Aberdeen Commercial Centre, 129 Aberdeen Rd., Suite 106). Participant
