SES: ASTRA-5B-SATELLIT AN BORD VON ARIANE-5-TRÄGERRAKETE ERFOLGREICH INS ALL GESTARTET

SES S.A. (NYSE Euronext Paris und Börse Luxemburg: SESG) gibt bekannt, dass der Satellit ASTRA 5B am 22. März 2014 um 19.04 Uhr Ortszeit (23.04 Uhr MEZ) an Bord einer Ariane-5-Trägerrakete vom europäischen Raumfahrtzentrum in Kourou in Französisch-Guyana erfolgreich ins All gestartet wurde.

ASTRA 5B wurde von Airbus Defence and Space Systems im französischen Toulouse basierend auf der äußerst zuverlässigen Plattform Eurostar E3000 gebaut. Der Satellit wird auf der Orbitalposition 31,5 Grad Ost stationiert und ist mit 40 Ku-Band-Transpondern (jeweils 36 MHz entsprechend) sowie sechs Ka-Band-Transpondern ausgestattet.

ASTRA 5B wird die Transponderkapazität und die geografische Reichweite von SES für den Satellitendirektempfang (DTH), die Kabel-Einspeisung und die Einspeisung in digitale terrestrische Fernsehnetze in Mittel und Osteuropa, Russland und der Gemeinschaft Unabhängiger Staaten ausweiten. Der Satellit trägt zudem die zweite von SES gehostete L-Band-Nutzlast für das geostationäre Navigationssystems (EGNOS – European Geostationary Overlay Service) der Europäischen Kommission. EGNOS trägt dazu bei, die Zuverlässigkeit und Präzision von Signalen zur Positionsbestimmung in Europa zu überprüfen, zu verbessern und zu melden.

ASTRA 5B hatte eine Startmasse von 5.724 Kilogramm und wird nach der Entfaltung seiner Solarpanele eine Spannweite von 40 m aufweisen und am Ende seiner projektierten Lebensdauer von 15 Jahren noch rund 13 Kilowatt elektrische Leistung bereitstellen.

Romain Bausch, President und CEO von SES, sagte: „Der heutige erfolgreiche Start von ASTRA 5B war für mich persönlich besonders bedeutsam, da ich am 3. April 2014, also in weniger als zwei Wochen, offiziell in den Ruhestand treten werde. Mit dem gelungenen Start hat SES seine Satellitenflotte während meiner Amtszeit von vier Satelliten auf einer einzigen Orbitalposition über Europa im Jahr 1995 auf 56 Satelliten auf 37 geostationären Slots weltweit ausgebaut. Gleichzeitig wird die Anzahl der aktiven Transponder von 64 auf 1.508 gestiegen sein, sobald ASTRA 5B in Betrieb geht. Entsprechend unserer klar definierten Strategie wird ASTRA 5B die Kapazitäten von SES über Mittel und Osteuropa, Russland und der Gemeinschaft Unabhängiger Staaten erheblich erhöhen.“

Dadurch eröffnen sich sowohl heute als auch in der Zukunft vielfältige Geschäftsmöglichkeiten, insbesondere, wenn EGNOS mit Galileo zusammenarbeitet, sobald Galileo Ende 2014 in Betrieb gehen wird.“

Airbus Defence and Space führt zur Zeit abschließende Integrations- und Testarbeiten an ASTRA 2G durch. Der Satellit startet noch dieses Jahr. Ausserdem hat die Arbeit an SES-10 jüngst begonnen. Beides sind Satelliten vom Typ Eurostar E3000.
