Mobile Commerce News Weekly – Week of February 2, 2014

The Mobile Commerce News Weekly is an online newsletter made up of the most interesting news, articles and links related to mobile commerce and marketing, mobile payments, mobile money, e-wallets, mobile banking, mobile ads and mobile security that I run across each week.  I am specifically targeting market size and market trend information.

The U.K. mobile payment provider Judo has launched JudoHub as a repository of content and educational broadcasts to help businesses, journalists and app developers understand and learn about m-commerce and payments.  Read Original Content

On Black Friday this past year, sales on mobile devices accounted for more than 20 percent of U.S. e-commerce spending. Traffic from mobile was even bigger, accounting for almost 40 percent of total online shopping visits that day. Read Original Content

Mobile commerce company Mobally announced the release of its mobile engagement shopping platform API, aimed at helping businesses quickly create and release native retail apps on mobile. The move should help developers and businesses as apps created with the platform can offer the same features as a desktop experience, but with on-the-go freedom.  Read Original Content

AT&T has made a move to develop its own mobile commerce platform. The telecommunications company is currently involved in Isis but AT&T is not willing to place the entirety of its mobile commerce interests on the platform.  Read Original Content

Juniper Research, a leading market research firm, has released a new report concerning mobile commerce and its continued growth in the United Kingdom. The report predicts mobile payments will reach $707 billion by 2018. Mobile commerce is expected to represent 30 percent of all online retail sales by that time.  Read Original Content

The HBC Department Store Group has launched a new iOS mobile shopping application for both Hudson's Bay and Lord & Taylor.  HBC is partnering with Pounce, a consumer-facing mobile app to integrate traditional media with m-commerce, providing customers the opportunity to purchase merchandise displayed in print media using tablets and smartphones.  Read Original Content

Toyota has begun embracing mobile payments. Toyota Financial Services, the financial arm of the automaker, has partnered with Barclays in order to allow drivers to make additional payments on their vehicles through their mobile devices. In the run-up to the Super Bowl, the NFL installed wireless transmitters — beacons — in the stadium and in Times Square that could interact with fans' smartphones and let them know where to buy their Seahawks gear or find the nearest bathroom.  It's perhaps the biggest mainstream event yet to employ beacons for location-based marketing.  Read Original Content
