BOULDER, CO -- (Marketwired) -- 02/05/14 -- Gnip, the world's largest and most trusted provider of social data, is working with Twitter to launch a new Data Grants program. In a first for the social data industry, Twitter will award Data Grants to a select group of researchers, with Gnip serving as the exclusive data provider.
Each day, more than 500 million public Tweets are published, creating an expansive set of data for researchers in a multitude of disciplines. Researchers have used social data from Twitter to publish groundbreaking work in such diverse fields as epidemiology, natural disaster response, international relations, financial markets, journalism and politics.
Gnip, Twitter's first data partner, will be the provider of public and historical data for the Data Grants program. Gnip will work closely with selected researchers to identify, refine, and deliver the data needed for their research.
"Public social data from Twitter represents one of the most important archives of human thought to have ever existed, and we believe the research applications are limitless," says Chris Moody, CEO of Gnip. "Gnip is proud to make Twitter data more widely available to researchers in the academic community and we look forward to supporting their cutting-edge work."
Those interested in applying should submit their proposals by March 15th, and Twitter will select a small number of recipients by April 15th. Gnip will provide grantees with the data they need for their research projects, and Twitter engineers will be available for research support.
Gnip is the world's largest and most trusted provider of social data. Gnip was the first to partner with Twitter to make their social data available, and since then have been the first to work with Tumblr, Foursquare, WordPress, Disqus, StockTwits and more. Gnip delivers social data to customers in more than 40 countries, and Gnip's customers deliver social media analytics to more than 95% of the Fortune 500. Gnip is headquartered in Boulder, Colo., and has offices in San Francisco, New York and Washington D.C. For more information, please visit http://www.gnip.com.
