CIT Announces Second of Two FY2014 Solicitations for the Commonwealth Research Commercialization Fund (CRCF) 

Eligible applicants invited to apply for nearly $5M in CRCF funds

January 9, 2014 (HERNDON, Va.) – The Center for Innovative Technology (CIT) announced today the Request for Proposals (RFP) for the Commonwealth Research Commercialization Fund (CRCF) FY2014 spring solicitation. CRCF advances science- and technology-based research, development and commercialization to drive economic growth in Virginia, strengthen collaboration and partnerships between the public and private sectors, and foster high-potential technology companies.

This round of funding, for nearly $5 million, opens on January 9, 2014; award announcements are planned for early June 2014. The solicitation targets research and commercialization performed by Virginia public and private universities, nonprofit research institutions, and young companies. Six programs are available during this limited submission solicitation: Commercialization, Eminent Researcher Recruitment, Facilities Enhancement Loan, Matching Funds, SBIR Matching Funds, and STTR Matching Funds. Applicants must submit a Letter of Intent (LOI) by Friday, January 31, 2014 to be eligible to submit an application; applications are due by Friday, February 21.

Awards from the CRCF further the goals and industry opportunities set forth the in the Commonwealth Research and Technology (R&T) Strategic Roadmap. Eligible technologies are identified in program-specific guidelines and include sectors such as advanced manufacturing, cyber security, data analytics, energy, life sciences and modeling and simulation.

The Commonwealth Research Commercialization Fund (CRCF) advances science- and technology-based research, development and commercialization to drive economic growth in Virginia and to encourage collaboration among its institutions of higher education and partnerships between these colleges and universities and business and industry.

The Commonwealth Research and Technology (R&T) Strategic Roadmap is a comprehensive planning tool the Commonwealth uses to identify research areas worthy of economic development and institutional focus.  It provides elected and other officials with priorities in key industry sectors that have commercial promise and that are eligible for new CRCF awards.  The Research and Technology Investment Advisory Committee (RTIAC), comprised of university, industry and economic development experts, reviews applications and make award recommendations to the CIT Board.
