Twitter’s Chris Fry Joins Braintree Board of Directors

Braintree, the fastest growing payments platform for online and mobile commerce, today announced Chris Fry, Senior Vice President of Engineering at Twitter, is joining its board of directors. With his experience in building world-class developer platforms, Fry will advise on the continued development of Braintree’s payment platform.

Braintree is the payment platform behind many of the best purchasing experiences in online and mobile commerce, including Uber, Airbnb, Fab, AngryBirds, HotelTonight, LivingSocial and OpenTable. Now handling more than $8 billion in annual volume and single-click purchasing for more than 35 million consumers, Braintree is rapidly becoming the standard for companies building next-generation e-commerce experiences. Companies have chosen to build on Braintree’s payment platform as it has given developers easy access to sophisticated payment tools to accept mobile and international payments as well as enable single-click checkout. With Venmo Touch, Braintree now enables consumers to pay with a single touch across apps on their mobile device.

Fry leads Twitter’s engineering organization and is responsible for one of the most widely used developer platforms in the world. Twitter has created a platform for hundreds of millions of users and many tens of thousands of developers to share and connect to information. There are few platforms in the world with comparable reach and utility. Twitter is also one of the most widely used mobile applications in the world due to its fantastic user experience.

“At Twitter, Chris is responsible for one of the most successful and widely used mobile apps and developer platforms in the world,” said Bill Ready, CEO of Braintree. “Braintree will benefit immensely from his experience as we continue to build a payments platform for the next generation of commerce. I couldn’t be more thrilled to have him on our team.”

“Braintree is transforming the online and mobile payments industry by giving developers easy access to sophisticated payment tools,” said Fry. “Many of the most innovative developer platforms and mobile applications, including GitHub, Twilio, Heroku, 37signals, Airbnb and Uber run on Braintree’s payment platform. I’m looking forward to working with Bill and the Braintree team as they build tools that enable developers to create the future of mobile and e-commerce.”

Chris’ expertise will help Braintree as it continues to make it easier for consumers and merchants to connect via seamless online and mobile purchasing experiences. Braintree has recently launched Braintree.js to provide even easier developer integration, introduced Venmo Touch in beta to enable one-touch payments across apps and released Venmo Payouts in beta to pay third party service providers.
