Vitesse Semiconductor Corporation (Nasdaq: VTSS), a leading provider of advanced IC solutions for Carrier and Enterprise networks, introduced the VSC7223 signal conditioner, the latest member of its low power, multi-protocol, adaptive EQNOX™ family of signal conditioners with FlexEQ™ technology. With data rate support up to 16 Gbps, the four-channel VSC7223 is ideal for use in high-speed, high-bandwidth network equipment, such as data centers or long-haul network transport equipment. The VSC7223 delivers ultimate design flexibility with its support for protocols including 16G Fibre Channel (FCIA, FC-PI-5), 14G FDR (Infiniband, Vol 2, Release 1.3) and 10G/40G/100G Ethernet (IEEE802.3).
“Vitesse’s EQNOX family has served as an excellent solution for us in several recent projects,” said Ramesh Sundaram, vice president of manufacturing services at Finisar. “Together with Vitesse’s excellent technical support, this low power, high performance family of signal conditioners has allowed us to overcome signal integrity challenges and successfully meet our aggressive requirements.”
Cisco’s Visual Networking Index (VNI) forecasts annual global IP traffic at 1.3 zettabytes, or one trillion gigabytes, by 2016. Contributing factors include an increased number of mobile devices and M2M connections, a larger user base, video as a greater percentage of overall internet traffic, and faster broadband speeds. Recent surveys also highlight network bandwidth demand as one of the most critical issues facing data centers. As a result of the higher data transmission speeds, signal integrity continues to be a critical aspect in carrier and enterprise networks worldwide.
“Ultra high-speed connectivity will become a de facto requirement, driven by business and consumer demand for video, high-speed data and cloud-based services,” said Gary Paules, product marketing manager at Vitesse. “Vitesse is committed to continuing its signal integrity innovations and enabling our customers to deliver high-performance solutions for next-generation networks.”

FlexEQ and VScope: World-Class Signal Integrity
Vitesse was first to introduce integrated signal equalization in crosspoints switches and now has over a decade of successful product developments and dozens of products in production. FlexEQ adaptive equalization technology reduces the cost of transmission by allowing signals to travel farther, faster, and error free in challenging fiber and copper applications. VScope embedded waveform technology allows confirmation of signal quality and system operation up to the SFP+ connector along with a full suite of BIST functions. These capabilities accelerate the diagnostic and troubleshooting phase of new system design, allowing OEMs to bring their products to market quickly.
