NEW YORK, March 11, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --
WHAT: The March of the Living is an annual educational program bringing students from all over the world to Poland and Israel to study the history of the Holocaust and examine the roots of prejudice, intolerance and hate. This memorable journey starts in Poland where the students commemorate Holocaust Remembrance Day on the grounds of Auschwitz-Birkenau and continues in Israel where participants honor Israel's fallen soldiers on Yom Hazikaron—Israel's Memorial Day and celebrate Israel's independence on Yom Ha'Atzmaut.
WHEN & WHERE: Participants arrive in Warsaw, Poland on Wednesday April 3, 2013. They will visit the Auschwitz death camp on Monday, April 8th and begin departing for Israel on Wednesday, April 10.
- On April 8th, Yom Hashoah—Holocaust Memorial Day, they will march from the entrance of Auschwitz, under the Arbeit Macht Frei ("Work Will Free You") sign to the Birkenau death camp where accompanying Holocaust survivors will describe their personal stories empowering the students to become "the witnesses of the witnesses".
- After visiting other places of Nazi German persecution, as well as once thriving sites of Jewish life on April 10, the participants will travel to Israel, the birthplace and homeland of the Jewish People.
- In Israel, they will tour the length and breadth of the country, visiting its ancient and modern sites, as well as commemorating Israel's fallen soldiers on Yom Hazikaron and celebrating Israel's independence on Yom Ha'Atzmaut.
