NEW YORK, NY -- (Marketwire) -- 03/07/13 -- Atlantic recording group The Staves have announced the long awaited US release of their acclaimed debut album. "DEAD & BORN & GROWN" will be available in stores and at all domestic DSPs on March 19th.
Hailed as "magical stuff... as perfect and precious as a Fabergé trinket" by the UK's The Independent, "DEAD & BORN & GROWN" will first have its exclusive US premiere via an exclusive full album stream at Billboard.com, beginning March 12th.
The UK-based sibling trio -- Emily, Jessica, and Camilla Staveley-Taylor -- will commemorate the domestic arrival of "DEAD & BORN & GROWN" with a series of performances at Austin, Texas' annual South By Southwest (SXSW®) Music and Media Conference. Highlights include Communion's eagerly anticipated showcase, set for Friday, March 15th at St. David's Historic Sanctuary, and Baebelmusic's The Launch Pad 2013, slated for Saturday, March 16th at The Knuckle Rumbler Lounge. A North American headline tour will also be announced shortly -- please see www.thestaves.com/live.htm for more information.
"DEAD & BORN & GROWN" -- which marks the first-ever teaming of legendary father-son producers Glyn and Ethan Johns, whose collective canon includes epochal works by such artists as The Rolling Stones, Kings of Leon, The Eagles, and Laura Marling, to name but a few -- has already received critical approbation in The Staves' home country. "A debut of stellar beauty and hidden depths," cheered the Sunday Times, while the Telegraph noted, "(the) graceful melodies reveal a supple strength and modernity" in its 4-out-of-5 starred rave. The Independent summed it up, declaring The Staves to be "a distillation of all that's best about the folk heritages of England and America."
"DEAD & BORN & GROWN" is highlighted by the new single, "Tongue Behind My Teeth," the companion video for which can be viewed now at The Staves' official YouTube channel, www.youtube.com/thestaves.
With their distinctive three-part harmonies and haunting melodies, The Staves have quickly earned acclaim as one of modern folk-pop's most astonishing new talents. The trio has already been hailed by a wide range of American publications, with the New York Times applauding their "otherworldly harmonies and retro strums." Time Out New York praised the sisters' "subtlety, grace and charm," while Vogue commended the group's 2012 "MEXICO" EP for possessing "a world-weariness reminiscent of Joni Mitchell's 'LADIES OF THE CANYON.'"
A mesmerizing and irresistible live act, The Staves have already won over North American audiences via a series of headline dates, festival appearances (including Sasquatch! Music Festival and the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival), and dates supporting such like-minded artists as Bon Iver and The Civil Wars. In addition, 2012 saw the sibling trio traveling the US as part of "The Austin To Boston Tour," a multi-artist bill presented by the acclaimed artist-led collective, Communion.
