Vishay Precision Group, Inc. (NYSE: VPG) today announced that Whistler Technology plc, a Mansfield-based supplier of electronic components since 2002, is distributing the complete line of Vishay Foil Resistors brand (VFR) Bulk Metal® Foil resistors throughout the United Kingdom. As a value-added distributor, Whistler Technology is also providing design-in and technical support for tailored solutions.
By distributing VFR’s precision resistors, Whistler Technology is cementing its distribution strength in the military, aerospace, down-hole, and medical industries while allowing its customers to penetrate new high-reliability markets. The VFR portfolio includes products in a variety of precision resistor configurations and package types: discrete resistors and resistor networks in surface-mount and through-hole (leaded) configurations; customized chip resistor networks; precision trimming potentiometers; and discrete chips for use in hybrid circuits.
“In expanding its network of reliable distributors, VFR strengthens its COTS (commercial-off-the-shelf) support with precision resistor products guaranteed to be available far into the future with no obsolescence,” said Yuval Hernik, Senior Director of Application Engineering for VFR. “This eliminates voids in designer support and removes the pressure on buyers who, in desperation, go to unauthorized distributors and risk mission failure and company reputation by opening channels for opportunistic counterfeiters.”
For Whistler Technology’s customers, Bulk Metal Foil resistors offer a TCR of 0.2 ppm/°C over a temperature range of -55 °C to +125 °C, resistance tolerance to 0.001%, load life stability to 0.0025% for 2,000 hours at 70 °C, thermal stabilization time less than 1 s (nominal achieved within 10 ppm of steady state value), low harmonic distortion, and electrostatic discharge (ESD) at least to 25 kV. The devices include the new series of ultra-high-precision Bulk Metal Z1-Foil wraparound, surface-mount chip resistors for high-temperature applications up to +240 °C.
“VFR is pleased to have this opportunity to work with Whistler Technology and anticipates a long and close relationship with mutual success for both companies in the U.K.,” added Hernik. “And high-end electronics manufacturers will receive the benefits of having genuine high-precision resistor products more immediately available for prototype development, as well as production, with all the efficiency of in-country procurement.”
