Mobile World Congress 2013 was the backdrop for Samsung's announcement of Knox, a new secure implementation of Android that will soon be available on Samsung leading smartphones. The new solution provides organizations with Blackberry type security controls including a container, secure email, browser plus vetted apps from a Samsung enterprise App Store. For those familiar with Samsung SAFE (SAmsung For Enterprise) which provides partners APIs to manage certain device functions, Knox now takes this to a new level with secure boot and a NSA derived version of Android along with hundreds of additional APIs allowing extensive policy and controls. The Knox solution is well suited for providing the highest levels of security and compliance while doing so on the latest Samsung devices.
Citrix will provide the IT Administrative control including Mobile Device Management (MDM) functions like Active Directory sync, Device Configuration, selective wipe, etc though a Knox enabled edition of XenMobile MDM. In addition Citrix services have been Knox enabled including; Sharefile for file sync, share and secure storage in the cloud or behind a companies firewall, GoToMeeting for collaboration, GoToAssist for support and GoToMyPC. Citrix Receiver is also Knox enabled to provide access to millions of existing Windows apps and desktops.
In Samsung's massive booth, Citrix as well as a number of other Knox partners demonstrated various integrations and apps working within the Knox container. The Citrix demos included a full life cycle of device enrollment, email configuration, app deployment, document sync with ShareFile, GoToMeeting sessions, GoToAssist support, pluging into a full size display with Receiver editing documents and saving the document locally into the Knox container and finally selective device wipe removing all corporate apps and data.
The Samsung Knox integration comes on the heals of the Citrix Zenprise acquisition and launch of the XenMobile MDM plus XenMobile Solutions Bundle which also supports iOS and standard versions of Android for cross platform BYOD and EMM ( Enterprise Mobility Management ). Adding Samsung Knox support to the portfolio further solidify's the Citrix position as an industry leader that can provide any organization a comprehensive mobility solution.
