PETALUMA, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 02/04/13 -- Cyan announced today that it is among the first group of vendors achieving Carrier Ethernet 2.0 (CE 2.0) certification from the Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF). MEF CE 2.0 certification was developed in conjunction with global service providers rolling out interoperable, extremely high performance business Ethernet services with stringent quality constraints. The MEF launched CE 2.0 in February 2012 as a way to improve Carrier Ethernet's ability to:
- support multiple classes of service (multi-CoS),
- improve manageability, and
- provide greater interconnect capabilities
as compared to the already widely deployed CE 1.0.
According to Michael Hatfield, Cyan founder and president, "It is difficult to overstate the importance of CE 2.0 for service providers and network operators around the world. CE 2.0 gives them the ability to create and deliver robust, ultra-low latency business Ethernet services for their most demanding customers. Being among the first to receive CE 2.0 certification is especially important for Cyan as it assures our customers that they'll be able to confidently deliver these services in multi-vendor environments."
The MEF announced the first set of twenty vendors to achieve CE 2.0 certification at the Carrier Ethernet Summit (Americas) in San Diego. Additionally, the MEF recently recognized Cyan customer CenturyLink with an award for "Best Carrier Ethernet Business Application" based on its CE 2.0 compliant implementation delivering advanced Ethernet services to local school districts.
"The achievement of the CE 2.0 equipment vendor certification is a testament to their commitment to outstanding service delivery to the Carrier market," said Ihab Tarazi chairman of the board, MEF, vice president of Global Planning and Technology, Verizon. "MEF CE 2.0 standards will enable carriers to choose equipment vendors with greater speed, clarity, and certainty."
MEF CE 2.0 certification was granted for Cyan's full suite of Z-Series packet-optical transport platforms (P-OTPs) including the 2.8 Tbps Z77, the 600 Gbps aggregation-oriented Z33, and the 200 Gbps edge-optimized Z22. The Z-Series platforms, which in their smallest form can be deployed to outside plant locations such as remote terminals and cell sites, were required to undergo an exhaustive test suite comprised of 634 individual tests.
Coupled with Blue Planet, the first software-defined network (SDN) system built for Carrier Ethernet service providers, the Cyan solution offers economic, scaling, and performance benefits to service providers addressing a range of applications including wireless backhaul, business Ethernet, and data center interconnect.
