Hitachi Data Systems Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. (TSE: 6501), today announced that the company’s object storage offering, Hitachi Content Platform (HCP), has received a 2013 Cloud Storage Excellence Award. HCP helps IT organizations and cloud service providers efficiently store, protect, preserve, search and retrieve unstructured content on a massive, yet cost-effective scale.
Some of the biggest challenges IT organizations face today are growth of unstructured data, proliferation of applications and increasing varieties of data types. This increases server and storage sprawl with numerous infrastructure silos to support different workloads. To address these challenges, Hitachi Content Platform, an advanced object storage solution, eliminates storage silos by managing a single infrastructure. That infrastructure supports geographically-dispersed workloads across a wide range of data types, applications and users, each of which benefit from the specific level of service it needs. Because data in HCP is protected and available, the traditional process of backing up data to tape is no longer necessary; compliance and legal requirements can be more thoroughly met and IT staff can manage more data per administrator. The unique features of HCP that lead to improved efficiency and functionality include ease of management, backup-free operations, compression, deduplication, spin-down disk support, and the ability to divide the system into a number of virtual tenants, each of which can be uniquely configured to serve a variety of workloads simultaneously.
“We are proud of the hard work and outstanding innovation that went into Hitachi Content Platform,” said Miki Sandorfi, chief strategist, File, Content and Cloud, Hitachi Data Systems. “This win represents the growing success of the object storage market as a whole, our position as a leader in the space, and our ability to satisfy the ever-increasing demands of emerging cloud services and big data environments.”
Hitachi Content Platform sets itself apart from other cloud infrastructure products by providing bottomless, backup-free file services without the need for on-site IT professionals. HCP delivers a comprehensive solution that includes the core cloud infrastructure and edge devices to connect distributed locations to a centralized object store. Cloud specific requirements, including multitenancy and chargeback, are also supported by HCP through its virtual object storage architecture and its ability to track relevant usage data.
Recognized not only for growth but the natural value in cloud-based storage, the Cloud Storage Excellence Awards honor companies that have introduced or improved cloud storage solutions. Today’s announcement adds to the industry accolades earned by Hitachi Content Platform. Last year, HCP was honored with a Visionary Product Award in the Enabling Professional Storage Technology category at the 2012 Storage Visions Conference. HCP received the award for the benefits it brings to organizations, including simplified IT, reduced costs and reduced risks.
