LA JOLLA, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 01/24/13 -- Continuing its tradition of giving back to the community, Farmers executives and volunteers will deliver 500 backpacks filled with food and necessities to the children and families of Doris Miller Elementary school, near Camp Pendleton in San Diego.
"As huge supporters of education, Farmers is proud to be able to help these students and families," said Farmers Insurance Vice President of Sponsorships, Charles Browning. "We know the potential of these children, and we are proud to support them as they achieve better attendance, test scores, better reading skills, a positive attitude and improved health."
PGA Tour player Justin Rose and his wife Kate first brought the idea of partnering with Blessings in a Backpack to Farmers attention in 2011. This year Farmers celebrates its third year of our commitment to Doris Miller Elementary."
According to Doris Miller Principal Stacy Jones, 98 percent of students have a parent on active military duty. "In some cases, mom and dad are both deployed and a child is living with the grandparent," she explains. "We're thankful to Farmers Insurance for helping these families make ends meet."
