Second Annual Atlassian Hack House Gives New Graduates A Weeklong Induction Into “Work Hard, Play Hard” Culture

Atlassian, a leading provider of enterprise collaboration software for product teams, today announced its second annual Hack House, its unique on-boarding program for new graduates from around the world who are joining the company's Sydney office. The new grads will spend this week receiving training and mentorship from top Atlassian engineers, work on some of Atlassian's world-class products and build products to be sold in the company’s business-to-business Atlassian Marketplace. This year's Hack House will take place at an upscale apartment located in Sydney's hip Surry Hills neighborhood.

Immediate Responsibility and Freedom

Hack House grads will be tasked with completing their first ShipIt Day, Atlassian's renowned quarterly innovation event, during which they'll be given 24 hours to build an add-on, an update or a feature to an existing Atlassian product. The grads will present their projects to Atlassian’s Sydney team at the end of the week.

"When I was told that I would be writing a ShipIt project in my first week of work I was very excited," said Robert Massaioli, a Hack House 2012 grad. "How often can you claim that you built something completely new for your company at your own discretion; let alone in your first week of work!"

A number of Hack House projects have been incorporated into Atlassian products as well as sold through the Atlassian Marketplace. Two grads from last year’s Hack House program built a software add-on product for Atlassian Confluence, a best in class team collaboration software, that has received close to 500 downloads.

"Using what we'd learned at Hack House, we identified a need and built a plugin. Within 24 hours, we had it selling on the Atlassian Marketplace," said Christopher Doble, a Hack House grad. "It’s used by a few enterprise customers on a daily basis."

Interested Students Encouraged to Apply

Interested graduates or students finishing a degree in computer science or software engineering are encouraged to apply here for upcoming graduate and intern programs. International candidates need not worry about relocation costs as Atlassian covers such expenses.
