MapR Technologies, Inc., the Hadoop technology leader, today announced Steve Jenkins as its first VP for EMEA to lead its new European operation that launched in December of 2012.
Jenkins, an experienced senior executive, has previously led European operations for Q1 Labs (acquired by IBM), Isilon Systems (acquired by EMC) and F5 Networks. During his career spanning over 20 years, Jenkins also guided the successful creation, growth and expansion of robust European market presence for Nortel Networks, Bay Networks and Wellfleet.
“Demand for Hadoop is growing at a phenomenal rate across Europe and I welcome the opportunity to help MapR deliver technical and sales resources to support and grow both our channel and client base across the region,” Jenkins added.
The new MapR European headquarters will be based in London, England and will initially support partners across the region. MapR has also appointed Zeljko Dodlek as sales director who joins the team following executive roles at RedHat, DataDirect Networks, Isilon Systems and NetApp. Dodlek is based in Munich, Germany and will primarily cover the DACH region.
Jenkins and the new European team will also support existing strategic agreements between MapR and EMC, Google, Cisco and Amazon as well as system integration partners across the region.
“The appointment of such an experienced European leadership team is essential for MapR to retain and expand its position as the clear leader in enabling Apache Hadoop to become more reliable and easier to use for big data analytics and business intelligence,” said John Schroeder, CEO and Co-founder, MapR Technologies.
Recent MapR highlight include:
- In October, MapR announced ground breaking Apache HBase™ NoSQL capabilities to enhance Big Data operations ranging from batch analytics to real-time database functions performed with enterprise-grade reliability and protection.
- Also in October, MapR set a new 1TB TeraSort benchmark record of 54 seconds using Google Compute Engine. This record setting TeraSort benchmark broke the one minute barrier with 1,003 servers, 4,012 cores and 1,003 disks as compared to the previous record. The prior documented record of 62 seconds was set by Yahoo running Apache Hadoop on 1,460 servers, 11,680 cores and 5,840 disks. Google announced a partnership with MapR on stage at the most recent Google IO conference.
- Amazon now offers the MapR Distribution for Hadoop as an option within the Amazon Elastic MapReduce service. Customers can provision dynamically scalable MapR clusters while taking advantage of the flexibility, agility and massive scalability of Amazon Web Services (AWS). In addition, AWS has made its own Hadoop enhancements available to MapR customers, allowing them to seamlessly use MapR with other AWS offerings such as Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3), Amazon DynamoDB and Amazon CloudWatch.
MapR will be showcasing its technology at The Hadoop Summit Europe in Amsterdam from the 20th to 21st of March. The leading conference for the Apache Hadoop community will feature thought leaders who will showcase successful Hadoop use cases, share development and educate organizations about how best to leverage Apache Hadoop as a key component in their enterprise data architecture.
