SAN JOSE, Calif., Jan. 14, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Grab the mustard and a handful of napkins! Togo's a "West Coast Original" since 1971 serving up big, made-to-order sandwiches stuffed with the freshest ingredients, is challenging customers during its month-long promotion to pound the pounder in it's second annual "Pastrami Pounder Challenge," in celebration of National Pastrami Day on Jan. 14. To complete the in-restaurant challenge, participating guests will have 30 minutes to consume a two-foot-long sandwich piled with more than one pound of Togo's premium sliced pastrami and topped with crisp lettuce, tomatoes and Togo's classic mustard.

The "Pastrami Pounder Challenge" runs from Jan. 14 – Feb. 19. Successful participants will receive a certificate for a free, limited edition Togo's hat and could also have their victorious moment captured and posted to Togo's Facebook page. Last year, nearly 150 people successfully devoured the Pastrami Pounder.
"We are thrilled to kick off 2013 with Togo's most talked about promotion of the year," said Renae Scott, vice president of branding and marketing for Togo's Eateries. "We're looking for loyal guests who REALLY love our signature pastrami, and are not afraid to loosen their belts a notch to take on the challenge at one of our restaurants."
For the next month, Togo's is also encouraging all guests to photograph their pastrami sandwich and post it via Instagram using the tags #Togos and #PastramiChallenge. Togo's gear will be given away weekly to those with the most unique photos, including earbuds, mini speakers, water bottles and much more. The grand prize winner* of the Instagram social media contest will receive free Togo's sandwiches for an entire year.
"Togo's is known for its seriously stacked sandwiches, but the 'Pastrami Pounder Challenge' takes the Togo's experience to a whole new level with the biggest size of our most popular sandwich in our 42-year history. The brand has sold more than 33 million Pastrami sandwiches to date," continued Scott.
At Togo's, there is a relentless commitment to using only the freshest, superior-quality ingredients and meats. California avocados are mashed daily, Artisan bread, abundant quantities of lean pastrami, roast beef, turkey and other premium meats are part of Togo's exceptional menu and set the brand apart from other sandwich shops.
