Aerohive Networks™, the leader in controller-less Wi-Fi and cloud-enabled enterprise networking, today announced that it has created a flexible application programming interface (API) for mobile device management (MDM) platforms and has integrated its enterprise Wi-Fi products with AirWatch’s leading enterprise-grade MDM solution to allow retailers to easily monitor and secure their mobile environments. Aerohive and AirWatch have teamed up to develop a new solution that enables comprehensive management of multi-OS mobile devices and enforces enrollment to ensure corporate policy compliance.
- Combining these best-in-class technologies, the new Aerohive and AirWatch MDM solution integrates intelligent Wi-Fi Access Points (APs) with a robust, fully configurable architecture to create a comprehensive network management access solution for multi-vendor mobile devices in retail environments.
- Mobile devices are increasingly becoming a staple in day-to-day retail operations—whether used to speed up check-out, provide employees with the most recent product and customer information, or enhance the customer experience. But as mobile becomes more integrated with the retail world, a major challenge for retailers is securing and managing the plethora of mobile devices connected to their enterprise wireless networks, while also allowing customers to use the same infrastructure to enhance their buying experience. This new integrated solution provides retailers with control and visibility over mobile devices within their businesses safely and securely— including point-of-sale (POS) hardware, tablets and smartphones.
- Aerohive’s HiveOS™ now provides an API to the system that allows any MDM vendor to integrate and enforce enrollment policy on Aerohive’s enterprise-class controller-less Wi-Fi network.
- AirWatch’s leading MDM solution leverages Aerohive’s API to enable IT administrators to manage and enforce enrollment and security policy on a diverse range of mobile smartphones and tablets within a single console including Android, Apple, Blackberry, Mac OS X, Symbian and Windows devices.
- Together, this integration allows businesses to force MDM enrollment of devices in their enterprise environments, configure and update device settings over-the-air, enforce security policies, secure mobile access to corporate resources and remotely lock and wipe managed devices.
- The Aerohive/AirWatch solution will empower retailers to stay ahead of the curve when leveraging mobile devices in their business operations, without compromising security or control.
- For a demo of Aerohive’s and AirWatch’s integrated solution, come by Aerohive’s booth #2477 at the National Retail Federation BIG Show taking place January 14-15 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City.
Pricing and Availability
- The AirWatch MDM enrollment feature will be a free upgrade in Aerohive’s HiveOS network operating system and HiveManager™ public and private cloud-based network management system available March 2013.
“The integration capabilities of Aerohive and AirWatch are a perfect fit for us,” said Neal Ruffalo, vice president and chief information officer, Acuity. “Being able to automate enrollment and integrate many of the other great MDM capabilities we have with Aerohive infrastructure has simplified our tablet, PC, and phone deployments and allows us to easily manage devices in an increasingly BYOD environment.”
“We’ve long assumed that the benefits of integrating mobile device management with wireless LAN management – improved security, flexibility, operations productivity, and overall solution reliability – will drive network and operational management in retail and beyond going forward,” said Craig Mathias, a principal with the wireless and mobile advisory firm Farpoint Group. “And when two industry leaders like Aerohive and AirWatch do exactly that, it’s safe to conclude that we’ve reached that point. This is a very exciting development.”
“Mobile devices are proliferating in retail environments at an exponential rate, creating a need for both reliable Wi-Fi and mobile device management within those environments,” said Bill Hoppin, vice president of business development, Aerohive Networks. “We are very excited to team up with AirWatch and offer our customers a comprehensive, secure MDM solution. This new integration allows Aerohive to easily automate MDM tasks, enabling secure device enrollment and ensure compliance. Together, Aerohive and AirWatch create the most cost-effective, cloud-managed solution available to retailers.”
“Aerohive's innovative, remotely managed Wi-Fi solution fits extremely well with AirWatch to offer streamlined enrollment and management services with world class networking for smartphones and tablet devices,” said John Marshall, chief executive officer and president, AirWatch. “We've built out an extensive set of APIs and functions allowing companies such as Aerohive to extend their features quickly and further embrace mobility in retail, as well as in many other verticals. In 2013, we are continuing to expand the integration features of the AirWatch solution and look forward to working with Aerohive on these in future releases.”
AirWatch is the global leader in mobile device security and management (MDM) systems, and, with 5,000 customers and nearly 1,000 global associates, is more than twice the size of any other MDM company. Having no outside capital, AirWatch is predominately funded by operating cash flow, resulting in an estimated install base four to five times larger than any other MDM provider. The largest customer base, combined with the largest research and development team in the industry, allows AirWatch to provide the broadest functionality at the lowest cost. This, combined with a scalable high-availability architecture, results in virtually every mobility project with more than 20,000 devices being managed by AirWatch. Examples of this market leadership include the top four global Fortune companies, nine of the top 10 U.S. retailers, six of the top 10 global airlines, the top four global energy companies, six of the top 10 global pharmaceutical companies, seven of the top 10 global CPG companies, three of the top five U.S. medical device companies, five of the top 10 global luxury goods companies and two of the top three global hotel groups.

The idea of comparing data in motion (at the sensor level) to data at rest (in a Big Data server warehouse) with predictive analytics in the cloud is very appealing to the industrial IoT sector. The problem Big Data vendors have, however, is access to that data in motion at the sensor location. In his session at @ThingsExpo, Scott Allen, CMO of FreeWave, discussed how as IoT is increasingly adopted by industrial markets, there is going to be an increased demand for sensor data from the outermos...

In addition to all the benefits, IoT is also bringing new kind of customer experience challenges - cars that unlock themselves, thermostats turning houses into saunas and baby video monitors broadcasting over the internet. This list can only increase because while IoT services should be intuitive and simple to use, the delivery ecosystem is a myriad of potential problems as IoT explodes complexity. So finding a performance issue is like finding the proverbial needle in the haystack.
