Phunware Buys TapIt Media Group

Continues Aggressive Push for "Mobile Cloud" Leadership Globally

AUSTIN, TX -- (Marketwire) -- 01/02/13 -- Phunware, the leader in enterprise branded mobile application infrastructure and experiences, today announced that it has acquired TapIt Media Group, a leading global independent mobile advertising company. Phunware purchased TapIt for a total purchase price of $23M and the acquisition closed formally on December 28th. The transaction was unanimously approved by the Boards of Directors for both companies and Phunware assumed all TapIt facilities and employees in both Irvine, California, and Rockville, Maryland, at closing.

"TapIt by Phunware" -- a branded mobile advertising network and Mobile-as-a-Service (MaaS) monetization module for iOS and Android mobile applications -- will represent the core of Phunware's cloud-based MaaS Advertising mobile platform. With more than 30,000 active publishers, TapIt maximizes mobile monetization through a comprehensive advertising product suite inclusive of self-service media buying, real-time bidding (RTB), publisher mediation and yield optimization, cross-platform ad creation and dynamic ad serving. TapIt currently supports more than six billion ad impressions per month in more than 220 countries worldwide.

"We are extremely excited to add further breadth and depth to the existing global scale of our core MaaS platform product offerings," said Alan S. Knitowski, Co-Founder, Chairman and CEO of Phunware. "The TapIt acquisition and the talent and expertise represented by its employee base will not only accelerate our operational velocity to start 2013, but it will also cement our leadership position as the dominant 'mobile cloud' provider globally."

In today's mobile world, brands, publishers, advertisers and application users all demand excellence in every facet of the global mobile ecosystem. Point and partial solutions will soon give way to fully integrated solutions that can exceed the needs and requirements of demanding mobile audiences around the world. Phunware brings the "mobile cloud" to the forefront of this new anytime, anywhere world by enabling highly engaging experiences across multiple touch points that fulfill the appetite of increasingly sophisticated audiences while simultaneously solving the underlying operational and monetization headaches of those required to reach, engage and delight them. The future of mobile will be defined by those who understand and embrace the power of these fully integrated global solutions across client, server and content to deliver audiences whatever they want, whenever they want it, wherever they are, on their devices of choice, in their languages of choice, at scale.

"We are honored to become part of the Phunware family, as our combined mobile platform offerings will add operational value, insight and control to both advertisers and publishers alike," said Giancarlo Maniaci, Co-Founder and CEO of TapIt Media Group. "With the velocity of adoption and maturation of mobile increasing daily, we strongly believe that fully integrated, easy to use, simple to deploy and all inclusive mobile platforms like Phunware's MaaS will soon define both 'best of breed' and the new global mobile standard."

There is an ever-growing explosion of new devices that are connected to the Internet using “cloud” solutions. This rapid growth is creating a massive new demand for efficient access to data. And it’s not just about connecting to that data anymore. This new demand is bringing new issues and challenges and it is important for companies to scale for the coming growth. And with that scaling comes the need for greater security, gathering and data analysis, storage, connectivity and, of course, the...
Manufacturers are embracing the Industrial Internet the same way consumers are leveraging Fitbits – to improve overall health and wellness. Both can provide consistent measurement, visibility, and suggest performance improvements customized to help reach goals. The increasing popularity of the Internet of Things necessitates that our physical and cognitive relationship with wearable technology will change rapidly in the near future. This advent means logging has become a thing of the past. Before, it was on us to track our own data, but now that data is automatically available. What does this mean for mHealth and the "connected" body? In her session at @ThingsExpo, Lisa Calkins, CEO and co-founder of Amadeus Consulting, will discuss the impact of wea...
We're entering the post-smartphone era, where wearable gadgets from watches and fitness bands to glasses and health aids will power the next technological revolution. With mass adoption of wearable devices comes a new data ecosystem that must be protected. Wearables open new pathways that facilitate the tracking, sharing and storing of consumers’ personal health, location and daily activity data. Consumers have some idea of the data these devices capture, but most don’t realize how revealing and...
trust and privacy in their ecosystem. We’ve worked with dozens of early adopters across numerous industries and will debunk common misperceptions, which starts with understanding that many of the connected products we’ll use over the next 5 years are already products, they’re just not yet connected. With an IoT product, time-in-market provides much more essential feedback than ever before. Innovation comes from what you do with the data that the connected product provides in order to enhance the customer experience and optimize busi...
