According to an ExecRank statement, the number one area of focus for top CTOs in 2012 has been "their role in developing defensible technologies for their companies, and leveraging those technologies to strengthen competitiveness." The top 2012 list places Brobst at number fourteen out of 15,000 CTOs in the United States. The ExecRank list also includes CTOs from innovators such as eBay, Intel, Boeing, and Lockheed Martin.

"At a time when big data analytics and integrated database technologies are at the very epicenter of business insight and value creation across the world, Stephen Brobst stands out as our highest-ranking voice for database-driven analytic intelligence and thought leadership," said Dallas Bond, Lead Analyst, Research Division, ExecRank. "Stephen's work and reputation are highly regarded in the industry and among other technology executives."

A key member of Teradata's leadership, Brobst is a recognized catalyst for innovation throughout his areas of responsibility. As CTO, Brobst continues to make a global impact on the information technology space, providing guidance to Teradata as well as to many Fortune 500 companies and government organizations -- helping extend  technological leadership and competitiveness in big data analytics.

"It's an honor to be recognized by ExecRank among so many talented peers," said Brobst. "I am excited by the tremendous opportunities emerging in the analytic data solutions environment and find it rewarding to contribute to the success of companies across the world that rely on Teradata for the intelligence required to compete and win."

CTOs were ranked according to ExecRank's patent-pending proprietary CTO Ranking Algorithm that calculates points for 24 key categories, in addition to the insights and feedback from evaluation committees featuring some of the world's most renowned business leaders.

Brobst recently served as a contributor on the Networking and Information Technology Research and Development Program Review Working Group supporting the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology. The group issued a report, "Designing a Digital Future," which concluded that "the collection, management and analysis of data is a fast-growing concern of NIT research" at a time when "data volumes are growing exponentially" due to the "proliferation of sensors and new data sources."

Brobst joined the Teradata team in October of 1999. Previously, he successfully launched three start-up companies related to high-end database products and services in the data warehousing and e-business marketplaces: Tanning Technology Corporation (IPO on NASDAQ), NexTek Solutions (acquired by IBM) and Strategic Technologies & Systems (acquired by NCR).

He performed his graduate work in computer science at MIT, where his master's and Ph.D. research focused on high-performance parallel processing. He also completed an MBA with joint course and thesis work at the Harvard Business School and the MIT Sloan School of Management. Stephen has been on the The Data Warehousing Institute faculty since 1996.
