Over the past two years, investment in SAS DataFlux Data Management software increased, as enterprises place more value on data. Increasingly, enterprises select data management from business analytics leader SAS to better understand and manage data as a valuable asset.
The business landscape is shaped by data – big data, small data or petabytes of unstructured data. With social media, Internet applications, partner networks, operational systems and more, the sheer magnitude is staggering.
“If 2012 showed us one thing, it’s that more and more enterprises realize the vital role data management plays in business analytics,” said Jim Davis, SAS Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer. “Data is transforming business, and data management is the key to unlocking measurable value and increasing competitive edge.”
Recognizing the rising need for enterprises to effectively derive value from their data, SAS integrated its DataFlux business unit into SAS in June 2012. The move helps customers build an integrated information management strategy that goes beyond data management and governance to support analytics and decision management.
In August 2012, Gartner positioned SAS DataFlux Data Management in the Leaders Quadrant in Gartner Inc.’s Magic Quadrant for Data Quality Tools. In October 2012, Gartner also named SAS DataFlux as a leader in its Magic Quadrant for Data Integration Tools.
Master Data Management
Invacare Corporation turned to SAS DataFlux Data Management to support a global master data management (MDM) project. With more than 830,000 active products in its separate enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, Invacare needed to better understand what is available to sell in various global markets. In some cases, data on identical products might be duplicated in several ERP systems and classified uniquely using different terminology, causing confusion and countless hours of redundant analysis.
“We selected SAS based on the quality and capabilities of the technology,” said Greg Rossiter, Director of Global Business Information and Data Management for Invacare, “but the most important advantage we’ve realized thus far is the incredible experience of working with the SAS team. After only a few weeks, the project had a smooth operating rhythm driving us to the program goal – creating a consolidated global multi-domain MDM repository.”
