SAN JOSE, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 12/06/12 -- MapR Technologies, Inc., the Hadoop technology leader, announced today the launch of its European operation to meet the needs of its growing community of customers and partners across the region. The new European headquarters in London, England, will provide MapR with a base for technical and sales resources to accelerate the adoption of its high performance, enterprise-grade distribution for Hadoop.
"There has been phenomenal Hadoop demand across Europe for our performance, unprecedented dependability and ease of use advantages," said John Schroeder, CEO and co-founder, MapR Technologies. "Our European expansion is a response to our strong customer growth and partner momentum."
The new office will help support existing strategic agreements between MapR and EMC, Google, Cisco and Amazon as well as system integration partners across the region. The EMEA launch builds on a number of strategic activities that has helped to position MapR as the clear leader in enabling Apache Hadoop to become more reliable and easier to use for big data analytics and business intelligence.
- In October, MapR announced ground breaking Apache HBase NoSQL capabilities to enhance Big Data operations ranging from batch analytics to real-time database functions performed with enterprise-grade reliability and protection.
- Also in October, MapR set a new 1TB TeraSort benchmark record of 54 seconds using Google Compute Engine. This record setting TeraSort benchmark broke the one minute barrier with 1,003 servers, 4,012 cores and 1,003 disks as compared to the previous record. The prior documented record of 62 seconds was set by Yahoo running Apache Hadoop on 1,460 servers, 11,680 cores and 5,840 disks. Google announced a partnership with MapR on stage at the most recent Google IO conference.
- Amazon now offers the MapR Distribution for Hadoop as an option within the Amazon Elastic MapReduce service. Customers can provision dynamically scalable MapR clusters while taking advantage of the flexibility, agility and massive scalability of Amazon Web Services (AWS). In addition, AWS has made its own Hadoop enhancements available to MapR customers, allowing them to seamlessly use MapR with other AWS offerings such as Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3), Amazon DynamoDB and Amazon CloudWatch.
MapR will be showcasing its technology at the Big Data Analytics 2012 show in London on the 6th of December. The show is the UK's largest and most prestigious cross-industry event aimed at senior executives within larger enterprises eager to find opportunities in Big Data streams with advanced analytics.
