Amazon announced a 25% cut in Amazon S3 pricing at the AWS re:Invent conference in Las Vegas, according to this InformationWeek article. Andy Jassy, SVP of AWS, announced the cut at the event’s first keynote speech. The Smart Enterprise team was at the event armed with cameras, recorders and twitter accounts. Cisco has plans to acquire Meraki, a networking company with solutions that are centrally managed from the cloud, according to this Talkin' Cloud article. If the acquisition goes through, the deal will close at the end of Cisco’s second quarter, 2013 and will cost $1.2 billion.

Rackspace announced a new startup program in the UK, which gives startups the opportunity to apply for up to 12,000 euros of free cloud hosting, according to this ZDnet article.

Anyone that knows me knows that I am a sucker for excellent research and data. Well, my friend and co-author on Visible Ops - Private Cloud, Kurt Milne (@kurtmilne on Twitter), just sucked me in with some excellent new research on 'Private and Hybrid Cloud IaaS Project Success Factors'. It was published by the IT Process Institute, so I knew immediately that it would be both interesting and important, and that it would provide immediately actionable insight - because that is what ITPI does. General Electric released a new study that predicts the "internet of things" (for example, internet-connected smart phones, traffic cameras, and wristbands), could increase global GDP by $10-15 trillion by 2030, according to this GigaOM article. The study says that a 1% increase in efficiency from automation could save $30 billion in the aviation industry and $63 billion in healthcare industry.
