LOS ANGELES, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 11/30/12 -- Liquipel LLC's technology is protecting devices used in the Hulu Lounge, a pop-up at Westfield Century City Mall in Los Angeles, from Nov. 23 through Jan. 2. A six-week outdoor activation, the Hulu Lounge demonstrates the benefits of Liquipel's (http://www.liquipel.com/) proprietary nanotechnology process that makes smartphones and other mobile devices weather-resistant and Watersafe.
Devices including a Microsoft Surface Tablet, Kindle Fire HD, MacBook Air, iPad, Belkin Rock Star Audio Splitter, Square, wireless controllers for PlayStation 3 and Xbox, Roku device and remote controller, Apple TV and controller and Sony headphones have all been treated by Liquipel, and to prove the technology's ability to safeguard gadgets against accidental exposure to rain, water and other liquids, are being left outdoors day and night for six weeks.
"Never before has any watersafe-treatment company been willing to put its technology to the test in this fashion," said Danny McPhail, Liquipels' head of product development and co-founder. "Everyone who visits the Westfield Mall can come by and see for themselves that not only does Liquipel protect their devices from accidental exposure to liquids but that it does so without affecting their look or feel."
Using the latest advancements in nano-coatings, Liquipel's patent-pending process creates a liquid-repellant coating that is microscopic but will last the life of the device. Since its debut in January 2012, Liquipel has been named the Grand Award Winner in the Gadget category in Popular Science magazine's "Best of What's New" issue, won an Edison Award, a FierceWireless Fierce 15 Award and been included in Entrepreneur Magazine's "100 Brilliant Companies" list.
Liquipel's protective process can be introduced to fully assembled devices or integrated into the manufacturing line itself. The device is placed in a temperature-controlled, vacuum chamber into which the proprietary formulation of super-hydrophobic particles is introduced in a vapor form. Particles are then added, binding the formulation to the device at the molecular level. Thirty minutes later, the process is complete.
Liquipel is virtually untraceable and will not affect nor compromise the look, feel and performance of the device.
