BLUE BELL, Pa., Nov. 29, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Unisys Corporation (NYSE: UIS) announced today that it has been awarded a contract worth up to $7.2 million to transition 4,500 users at the U.S. National Archives and Records Administration to Google Apps for Government, a cloud-based email and collaboration solution.
The move to the cloud-based solution is designed to allow employees at the National Archives to share information technology infrastructure, resources and applications while helping them to collaborate with each other and with individuals and organization outside of the agency. The National Archives expects the solution to give its employees secure and efficient access to email and data while cutting operational costs and improving system uptime and availability.
The firm fixed price contract was awarded to Unisys under the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) IT 70 Schedule contract program. The five-year contract includes one base year followed by four one-year option periods, exercisable at the discretion of the government. The base year is valued at $2.8 million, and the total contract is worth $7.2 million if all options are exercised.
This contract is the first awarded to Unisys by the National Archives, the nation's record keeper. The new cloud-based solution will help the agency perform its record management duties to safeguard and preserve U.S. government records.
"We are pleased to have the National Archives as a new client making the transition to cloud-based email and collaboration services," said Venkatapathi "PV" Puvvada, group vice president, civilian agencies, Unisys Federal Systems. "We look forward to helping the National Archives cut costs and become more efficient as its employees perform their important and high-profile mission."
The award closely follows Unisys' recent announcement that it had completed the transition of 5,000 employees at the Department of Energy's Idaho National Laboratory to the cloud-based Google Apps for Government solution. Early this year, Unisys also completed a similar transition of 25,000 employees at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Last year, Unisys announced the transition of 17,000 GSA employees to the Google solution. The project made GSA the first federal government agency to migrate all of its employees to a cloud-based email environment.

Forward-Looking Statements
Any statements contained in this release that are not historical facts are forward-looking statements as defined in the Private Securities Litigation Reform Act of 1995. All forward-looking statements rely on assumptions and are subject to various risks and uncertainties that could cause actual results to differ materially from expectations. In particular, statements in this release regarding the total value of the contract are based on the assumption that all options will be exercised, which is at the discretion of the government.
