Medical teams arrive, five planeloads of aid land at El Arish airport in Egypt
WASHINGTON, Nov. 25, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ (MACP) -- Morocco continued its humanitarian aid operation for Palestinians in Gaza which was launched earlier this week by HM King Mohammed VI. Medical teams set up a field hospital and five planeloads of medical and food aid arrived Thursday and Friday at El Arish airport in Egypt (380 km east of Cairo) for transport to Gaza through the Rafah border crossing.
The aid includes a multidisciplinary medical-surgical hospital and Moroccan medical delegation, which was received on Thursday in Gaza by Younes El Khatib, president of the Palestinian Red Crescent, and director general of the Palestinian red crescent association Khaled Jouda.
Set up on order of King Mohammed VI, the field hospital is fully equipped with everything required by the medical teams, which are made up of specialized medical units from the Royal Armed Forces, as well as Moroccan civilian physicians and paramedics.
More Moroccan planes will land in the days ahead at El Arish, loaded with logistical and humanitarian support for Gazans, including four tons of drugs and 38 tons of foodstuffs, mainly powder milk and rice for Gaza's children, provided by the Mohammed V Foundation. The hospital unit and aid consignments are being airlifted by the Royal Armed Forces.
HM King Mohammed VI ordered the operation last Sunday to send a specialized Moroccan mission with sizeable logistical and humanitarian support to help ease the suffering of Palestinians caught in this past week's conflict, which has taken the lives of more than 150 people.
Morocco has also set up a field hospital in neighboring Jordan, which has welcomed and treated more than 41,000 Syrian refugees who have fled their country's civil war.
