MIAMI, Nov. 16, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- On the night of November 14^th, Poder Awards recognized the continuous efforts of Dr. Dionisio Gutierrez by presenting him with their Democracy Empowerment Award.

Poder Magazine, a premier publication focusing on U.S. Hispanic and Latin American policy-making as well as corporate strategy, in relation with the American Business Council, hosted the Poder Awards this past Wednesday evening. They presented Dr. Dionisio Gutierrez, a Guatemalan businessman, sociologist, communicator and the President of Fundacion Libertad y Desarrollo, with the award for Democracy Empowerment. This important commendation recognizes his extensive work throughout the years strengthening democratic principles in Guatemala and Central America.

Dr. Gutierrez is President of Fundacion Libertad y Desarrollo, a think and do tank dedicated to the analysis, investigation and discussion of human matters with the objective of proposing and promoting solutions that allow economic, social and civic development in an environment of freedom, democracy and rule of law.

He currently serves on the boards of the John Hopkins' Atlantic Basin Initiative, the Latin American Board of Georgetown University, and the board of Trustees of Francisco Marroquin University. He is also involved in the business community.

Dr. Gutierrez was also the host and director of the landmark TV program, Libre Encuentro, which was broadcasted for 20 years in Guatemala, Central America and part of the U.S.

The Foundation

Fundacion Libertad y Desarrollo, focuses on proposing and promoting solutions that allow for economic, social and civic development. Its current initiatives include social programs, youth networking to promote leadership and civic involvement, and a TV show that will air on January 2013, called Dimension. The show will present documentaries, analysis and dialogues on economic growth, social development and democratic values. It will be hosted and directed by Dionisio Gutierrez.
