HOLLYWOOD, Calif., Nov. 12, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Sycamore Entertainment Group, Inc. (SEGI), a leading innovator in hybrid film distribution, is pleased to announce it has launched its home entertainment division: SYCAMORE ENTERTAINMENT HOME VIDEO. The newly-formed division will launch with the release of the DVD and Blu-ray of the award-winning drama "The Eye of the Storm," directed by Fred Schepisi, on January 29th, 2013.
"In this new era of distribution, we are thrilled to bring "The Eye of the Storm" to DVD and Blu-ray through our new home entertainment division," says Ed Sylvan, CEO of Sycamore. He goes on to say "DVD and Blu-ray sales account for a significant portion of revenues in a film's life cycle. We created this division to maximize the revenue from this market while the industry transitions to more digital platforms."
SYCAMORE ENTERTAINMENT HOME VIDEO has hired Brian W. Brown as director of Sales. Brown, a 25-year veteran of the home entertainment industry, has overseen home entertainment divisions at New Yorker Films and, most recently, Music Box Films, where he spearheaded the campaigns and sales for such high-profile titles as "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" trilogy and Guillaume Canet's "Tell No One." Brown has begun promotion and a specialized marketing campaign for the film.
"Sycamore's vision of the film distribution market place allows me to utilise my tenured experience to its fullest" says Brown. He goes on to say, "This is a fantastic first release into the home video industry; we are receiving a very enthusiastic response from home video wholesalers and retailers nationwide."
The film placed in the top 50 independent movie downloads on iTunes and is garnering attention in the industry with its campaign for awards this season. The Hollywood Reporter's Scott Feinberg's blog 'THE RACE' has recently added Geoffrey Rush as "Possible" in the category of best actor.
Sylvan continues, "The timing of the launch of our new division and DVD release could not have been better. As a result, we are now able to leverage our awards campaign into greater publicity for the DVD release."
Currently negotiating several titles including "Free Angela Davis and All Political Prisoners," Sycamore intends to release six to eight films a year theatrically and 12 to 15 films a year through its new home entertainment banner.
