Airpush (www.airpush.com), winner of the “Best Mobile Ad Network” at the 2012 MEAs, today announced at the SF AppShow a partnership with Appthority, the Authority in App Reputation™, designed to target the proliferation of mobile malware. This partnership will integrate Appthority’s industry-leading mobile security technology directly into the Airpush platform in order to scan all advertiser app promotions and URLs as an additional layer of protection to Airpush’s manual approval process. Airpush seeks to set a new standard in mobile ad network security practices and encourages other networks to follow suit.
Mobile malware is one of the most severe and prevalent threats to the mobile ecosystem. Innovative security companies like Appthority are rapidly developing solutions to combat this threat, but without scanning at the distribution level, they can only eliminate a small percentage of malicious threats. By integrating Appthority’s technology directly into its platform, Airpush has virtually eliminated the threat of mobile malware distribution via its network of over 50,000 applications.
“The threat of mobile malware is damaging to all players in the ecosystem, and mobile ad networks are uniquely positioned to combat the threat,” said Asher Delug, Founder and CEO of Airpush. “After evaluating a wide variety of mobile security platforms, the strength and speed of Appthority’s technology made them the clear choice. Since we are scanning thousands of advertiser campaigns on a regular basis, we required a technology partner with a fast and robust API. Appthority fit the bill.”
According to Airpush data, the vast majority of mobile malware advertisers are based in Russia and Eastern Europe, with China and other Asian countries close behind. Recently, however, there has been a rise in malware advertisers within certain Western European markets. Appthority’s technology enables Airpush to systematically monitor threats on a global basis and remove those threats in near real-time.
“Mobile malware has been a thorn in the side of the thriving app ecosystem,” said Kevin Watkins, CTO and co-founder of Appthority. “We are proud to assist Airpush with the technology that improves the state of security across the app world. Airpush is being proactive by attacking the malware problem at its source – distribution – and that demonstrates their commitment to protecting their customers.”
