BROOMFIELD, Colo., Nov. 5, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Webroot, a leader in delivering Internet security as a service, today announced it now owns 31 percent share of the U.S. retail security software market, according to October 2012 data from The NPD Group[1]. This new number two position includes a 16-point unit share lead over the number three brand and signifies continued momentum for Webroot, which recently released the 2013 line of award-winning Webroot® SecureAnywhere™ solutions and partnered with Facebook.

Over the past year, Webroot shifted its retail efforts to focus on a few very strategic partnerships that reach a more targeted consumer base. Webroot saw crucial opportunities to sell its highly innovative home and mobile security solutions with Best Buy and Target and gained access to thousands of Geek Squad Agents. As of the second week of October 2012, The NPD Group, the leading provider of reliable and comprehensive consumer and retail information for a wide range of industries, released U.S. retail security market share data that confirmed this strategy proved successful for Webroot, which has gained more than 17 points of share since the launch of Webroot SecureAnywhere in October 2011, doubling its footprint in the retail market.
"We are thrilled to take the second place position, but we are far from complacent," says David Bennett, vice president of Worldwide Consumer Sales at Webroot. "Our teams are even more driven to make Webroot the number one choice in online security for customers in the U.S.—and worldwide. In the end, the consumer decides who is first, and our customer satisfaction is outstanding."
Webroot recently released Webroot SecureAnywhere™ Antivirus 2013 and Webroot SecureAnywhere™ Complete 2013, which earned prestigious PC Magazine Editors' Choice Awards in the ultra-competitive Antivirus and Suites categories. With the 2013 editions of SecureAnywhere, Webroot provides enhanced malware protection with even better performance, an improved user experience, and extended platform support for PCs, Macs, and Android and iOS devices.
Webroot achieved another notable milestone with its partnership with Facebook to provide the social network's users with protection against online security threats. For the more than one billion Facebook users, Webroot prevents attacks such as viruses, phishing, malicious websites, identity theft, and bogus downloads.
