Poll: Ohio Independent Young Adults Say Jobs Top Presidential Campaign Issue

Facebook and Text Messages Seen As Most Effective GOTV Reminders

WASHINGTON, Nov. 3, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Generation Opportunity today released data specifically on Independent voters from their comprehensive Ohio-specific survey of young adults ages 18-29. The poll found that 72 percent of Independent Millennials in Ohio plan to vote in the presidential election, only 19 percent believe the country is headed in the right direction, and 80 percent say key life decisions have been delayed by the poor national economy. The poll also found that of the "Get Out The Vote" (GOTV) reminder tools that will have an impact on Independent young voter turnout in Ohio, Facebook ranked first at 54 percent and text messages ranked second at 39 percent. Only 11 percent of Ohio's Independent young adults thought a phone call would be effective – a clear indication that smartphones and other mobile devices have reached a point of heavy market penetration within the demographic.

STATEMENT BY PAUL T. CONWAY, PRESIDENT OF GENERATION OPPORTUNITY

"The poor national economy and the lack of full-time jobs have interrupted the lives of young adults across Ohio, including those of Independent young adult voters. Their concerns are the same as other independent young voters across the nation – they are tired of a status quo marked by skyrocketing national debt, high unemployment, meaningless part-time jobs, and full-time jobs that are below their own education and skill levels. Over the next few days, young Ohioans will finalize their decision and, ultimately, make their voices heard by voting for the candidate they believe has shown leadership in outlining an agenda that will allow businesses to grow and put more young people in Ohio and across America back to work," said Paul T. Conway, President of Generation Opportunity and former Chief of Staff of the United States Department of Labor under Secretary Elaine L. Chao. "Ohio's young adult Independents fully represent their generation – they are shrewd decision-makers who are unimpressed by last-minute negative attacks and much more focused on a candidate's ability to actually deliver on the promise of change. After all, they know what it looks like when candidates fail to deliver on promises of change."

METHODOLOGY

For Generation Opportunity, the polling company, inc./WomanTrend, conducted a statewide online survey of 507 Ohio adults ages 18-29 between July 27August 14, 2012. Randomly selected online opt-in panel participants were sent an invitation to the survey via email, which included a secure link to the online questionnaire. Quotas were used to ensure the survey was representative of the larger 18-29 year old statewide population with regard to race, region, and gender. The data were NOT weighted. The overall sampling margin of error for the survey is +/-4.4% at a 95% confidence interval, meaning that the data obtained would not differ more than 4.4 percentage points in 95 out of 100 similar samples obtained. Independent voters comprised 17% of the total sample.

More and more brands have jumped on the IoT bandwagon. We have an excess of wearables – activity trackers, smartwatches, smart glasses and sneakers, and more that track seemingly endless datapoints. However, most consumers have no idea what “IoT” means. Creating more wearables that track data shouldn't be the aim of brands; delivering meaningful, tangible relevance to their users should be. We're in a period in which the IoT pendulum is still swinging. Initially, it swung toward "smart for smar...

Extracting business value from Internet of Things (IoT) data doesn’t happen overnight. In his session at @ThingsExpo, Gordon Haff, Red Hat Technology Evangelist, will share examples from a wide range of industries – includin...
"We build IoT infrastructure products - when you have to integrate different devices, different systems and cloud you have to build an application to do that but we eliminate the need to build an application. Our products can integrate any device, any system, any cloud regardless of protocol," explained Peter Jung, Chief Product Officer at Pulzze Systems, in this SYS-CON.tv interview at @ThingsExpo, held November 1-3, 2016, at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, CA.
"Once customers get a year into their IoT deployments, they start to realize that they may have been shortsighted in the ways they built out their deployment and the key thing I see a lot of people looking at is - how can I take equipment data, pull it back in an IoT solution and show it in a dashboard," stated Dave McCarthy, Director of Products at Bsquare Corporation, in this SYS-CON.tv interview at @ThingsExpo, held November 1-3, 2016, at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, CA.
The cloud promises new levels of agility and cost-savings for Big Data, data warehousing and analytics. Today we can collect lots and lots of performance data. We build beautiful dashboards and even have fancy query languages to access and transform the data. Still performance data is a secret language only a couple of people understand. The more business becomes digital the more stakeholders are interested in this data including how it relates to business. Some of these people have never used a monitoring tool before. They have a question on their mind like “How is my application doing” but no id...

Information technology is an industry that has always experienced change, and the dramatic change sweeping across the industry today could not be truthfully described as the first time we've seen such widespread change impacting customer investments. However, the rate of the change, and the potential outcomes from today's digital transformation has the distinct potential to separate the industry into two camps: Organizations that see the change coming, embrace it, and successful leverage it; and...
