Here is today’s tech news and top stories.
- A Report from Flurry, the mobile analytics firm, states that mobile adoption has been faster than any other technology adoption ever - Smart device adoption is outpacing that of PCs, broadband, and even social networks. While the rate of adoption is absurd, it is not yet slowing, especially in emerging markets (think Android adoption in China and India). Via 9to5 Mac, more here.
- Lenovo IdeaPad A2109 is now available for $299 - Well the Nexus 7 is out, and if you need a 10″ Android tab there are plenty (the Asus Transformer Infinity w/ 1080p for example) but every OEM out there seems to feel the need to make there own. Lenovo’s offering is a 9″ Tegra 3 device with 16GB of storage, front and rear cameras and ICS. Via Phandroid, more here.
- Apple is taking their win seriously, and with it hope to ban 8 devices, none of which mean anything in today’s market - they are banning the whole Galaxy S and Galaxy S2 lines, but since the S3 is out, why would anyone buy those devices? Via Droid-Life, more here.
- Hisense Pulse with Google TV launching in mid-November - if you are not a fan of the current Google TV options, there is a new option out there. While the Google TV is not the best set-top box (I personally think the Roku takes that cake), it’s pretty good. However, I’d wait to see what the Ouya is like when it is released right now. Via The Verge, more here.
- NVIDIA and VMware have teamed up to provide GPU computing to virtual machines - GPU computing can offer huge yields in computing and processing, they just have to be used properly. Today, vSphere 5.1 offers the ability to use 3D graphics. Via NVIDIA, more here.
- The top android tablet (in value and capabilities) the Nexus 7, is now on sale in France, Germany and Spain - starting at $199, with pure Android updates, the Nexus 7 is powerful, useful and affordable. As it reaches more markets, the iPad stranglehold on the tablet market should begin to relent. Via Betanews, more here.
- The suspected Bitcoin pyramid scheme shuts down - the virtual hedge fund promising huge returns is now shut down (if this surprises you, I am sorry). I cannot imagine how sending untraceable dirty money over the internet to a stranger would not turn out well…Via The Verge, more here.
- Sears is offering Free Keyboard Dock with purchase of Asus Transformer Pad (TF300) - Sears is giving the keyboard dock for free to purchasers of the Transformer Pad from their store. The device is $400, and the dock (usually $150) is free. While the Transformer Pad is not the TF Infinity, it’s okay. Via Droid-Life, more here.
- Amazon is now shipping more with Prime than with their free shipping - Amazon Prime is one of the greatest subscription options on the internet. You can get free two-day shipping, shows and books, for just $80 a year. Via Engadget, more here.
- Sony is also releasing a Windows 8 Tablet - there were OEM concerns when Microsoft said they would be releasing their own Surface tablet, but it appears that OEMs are lining up to create their own. Sony’s already looks pretty cool, and might be 11″ plus. Via Gizmodo, more here.
- Samsung releases specs for Galaxy Note 2 - the Note 1 just hit T-Mobile, to be end-of-life’d within less than a month. Samsung is releasing the Galaxy Note 2 with some impressive innards. Samsung is including their quad-core Exynos processor, a 5.5″ 720p screen, 8MP camera, support for LTE, and Jelly Bean. Via Droid-Life, more here.
