WINFIELD, Ill., Feb. 13, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Cadence Health, the newly named health system created through the merger of Central DuPage Hospital (CDH) and Delnor Hospital, today announced an affiliation with Cleveland Clinic for adult medical oncology services. Cadence Health has embarked upon the affiliation to build on an extensive offering of cancer services at its two hospitals and to bring patients access to Cleveland Clinic's expertise in cancer care. This is the first national affiliation in adult medical oncology for Cleveland Clinic and is similar to the existing CDH heart surgery affiliation.
An affiliation for adult medical oncology services with the nation's # 9 cancer program, as ranked by U.S. News & World Report, will provide Cadence Health with access to evidence-based protocols and treatment plans, expanded research and clinical trials, and additional resources in training and education. Patients will benefit from growing capabilities in subspecialty care and expanded support services.
"Cadence Health patients already have local access to comprehensive cancer care and state-of-the-art technology including a world class proton therapy center," said Luke McGuinness, Chief Executive Officer, Cadence Health. "The new affiliation with Cleveland Clinic will raise the bar even higher for regional cancer care, bringing our patients the expertise of one of the leading cancer centers in the U.S. We are eager to build on our successful relationship with this top health care provider and offer more advanced care to our patients."
"Our affiliation with Cadence Health will help enhance patient care by providing the latest treatments available along with greater access to clinical trials," said Brian J. Bolwell, M.D., chairman of Cleveland Clinic's Taussig Cancer Institute. "We will work together to achieve the highest standards of care and the best outcomes for our patients."
The Cleveland Clinic cancer program has 175 staff physicians in more than a dozen cancer-related specialties. In 2010, it had nearly 300,000 patient visits and enrolled approximately 1,300 patients in 247 clinical trials.
