ServiceMesh on Thursday announced it has joined the OpenStack community. Using the ServiceMesh Agility Platform and the OpenStack open source cloud operating system, Global 2000 enterprises can construct a modern, high-performance cloud computing environment. The Agility Platform ensures that all enterprise governance, policy management, and workflow capabilities are applied in a consistent manner across each of the clouds, whether based on OpenStack or other private and public cloud technologies, allowing the enterprise to shift to a modern, agile IT operating model. An agile IT operating model, in turn, helps customers realize concrete business value from cloud computing technology.
"With Global 2000 customers, there is no such thing as a singular cloud environment," observed Dave Roberts, vice president of strategy at ServiceMesh. "Large enterprises operate with both internal and external clouds, public and private, and need to deliver a consistent set of governance, policy management, and workflow capabilities across each of those environments."

Founded by Rackspace Hosting, NASA, and 25 other companies, OpenStack has grown an impressive global community of software developers to collaborate on a massively scalable and reliable open-source cloud operating system. Its mission is to enable organizations to create and offer cloud computing services using an open standard cloud operating system running on standard hardware.
Jonathan Bryce, chairman of OpenStack Project Policy Board, noted that "OpenStack helps enable users to build and deliver highly scalable and reliable cloud infrastructures to satisfy their changing business demands, and is the emerging open standard for public and private clouds."
ServiceMesh complements and extends that vision by integrating OpenStack-based clouds into the ServiceMesh Agility Platform, the industry's market-leading enterprise cloud platform. The Agility Platform allows companies to build federated hybrid cloud architectures, supporting both internal and external, private and public clouds. The addition of OpenStack gives ServiceMesh customers more choice and flexibility, and adds to the company's already robust vendor ecosystem, including enterprise cloud providers such as VMware, Terremark, Savvis, Fujitsu, GoGrid, and Amazon EC2, along with a growing array of third-party PaaS and SaaS providers. The relationship gives existing OpenStack users a way to accelerate the transformation to an agile IT operating model with a fully governed, policy-driven enterprise cloud platform.
