Here is an early sneak-peek at some of the many and varied themes and topics due to be discussed in the breakout technical sessions scheduled in the course of the jam-packed four days. (Editorial Note: this is a small initial selection only – the Call for Papers for 8th Cloud Expo only closed February 4th, and new sessions are being selected and posted on a daily basis.)

Automation in the Cloud – While infrastructure - whether public, private or hybrid models - tends to dominate cloud computing discussions, it is applications that are critical to establishing value in the cloud. In a session to be given at Cloud Expo in June by HP Software's Director, Cloud Global Practice, Marc Wilsonson, Wilkinson will provide best practices from IT experts to equip attendees with the knowledge to build automated, repeatable processes that provide control, manageability and assurance for cloud success. The session will be entitled "Driving Autopilot: The Key to Cloud Success."

Architecting the Cloud – How should Enterprise Architects think about cloud computing? How can they best counterbalance vendor spin? In his Cloud Expo New York session in June the managing partner of Zapthink, Jason Bloomberg will be outlining the primary issues an EA must consider in order to make appropriate decisions about various Cloud-based options, how to put together a Cloud roadmap, and how best to communicate the position the Cloud should take in the greater context of agile Enterprise Architecture. Big Data – Anyone who wants to know how (and why) Yahoo! runs the world's largest Hadoop cloud needs to attend the session "Lessons of Big Data" by Todd Papaioannou, VP of Global Cloud Computing at Yahoo! Papaioannou will be discussing the lessons learned as Yahoo! continues to build products on the Hadoop platform, successfully solving some of the most critical technical challenges when it comes to crunching big data at unprecedented scale.

Cloud Desktop – If you are wondering "Why Windows Will Not Be the Desktop of Cloud Computing" then you will not want to miss the Cloud Expo New York session in June to be given by Stoneware, Inc. CEO, Rick German. His session will discuss the delivery of private cloud services via a desktop built inside a web browser suitable for slates, smartphones, netbooks, etc.
Cloud Economics – 
How do public clouds offer order-of-magnitude improvements in economics? This question will be answered in June by GoGrid CEO John Keagy in a session entitled The Economics of Public Cloud Computing. Cloud Expo New York attendees will learn from Keagy - a popular, regular Cloud Expo speaker - why the cloud should be a critical component of their IT strategy, how to identify inefficiencies within their current IT infrastructure, and how Cloud Computing will impact the world-wide IT economy by actually shrinking it.
Cloud Integration – The Founder & CTO of Dell Boomi, Rick Nucci, will be giving a session at Cloud Expo New York on "Cloud Integration: Best Practices for IT Managers" in which he will cover a set of business and technical "Best Practices" for cloud integration, drawing on insights gained from thousands of cloud-to-cloud and cloud-to-on-premise integration projects.
Cloud Networking – OpSource CEO Treb Ryan will be joining presenters from companies such as VMware, Cisco and Amazon to discuss the best practices for securing the cloud, comparing and contrasting various approaches for providing edge-to-edge security. The session is titled: "Cloud Networking: Turning Security Upside Down."
Cloud Strategy – Bhargav Shah, Director of KPMG's IT Advisory practice, will be giving a session on how to choose the right Cloud strategy for an organization: it is called "The Impact of Cloud Computing on IT." There is no one size fits all, and so Shah - leader of KPMG's cloud solution development - will be sharing knowledge and insights (Private vs. Public cloud, IaaS/PaaS/SaaS) gleaned from helping many clients leverage cloud computing in their overall IT strategy.

Collaboration in the Cloud – How are collaboration tools and cloud trends coming together? Is cloud the right deployment strategy for collaboration systems? In a session called "Internal, External, Cumulonimbus?" to be given by Ken Muir - Chief Technology & Strategy Officer at Novell - Muir will examine a secure on-premise and cloud deployment mix, challenges organizations should anticipate when shifting to the cloud, and key things to consider when building out a cloud collaboration strategy.
Community Clouds – In a sure-to-be-popular session, "How & Why the Public Sector is Leading the Way to the Cloud," CloudCamp co-founder Dave Nielsen will be explaining at Cloud Expo New York how the Cloud is moving towards v2.0, in which we are beginning to see "Community Clouds" develop where multiple organizations band together to create a shared Cloud resource.
Digital Forensics – Jon Shende, an advisory board member at EBSL Technologies, will be giving a session on "Digital Forensics and Cloud Computing" in which among other things he will be showing how a major challenge to any digital forensics investigation within a distributed environment such as cloud computing could be challenges locating and/or identifying data when single data structures are split into elements, time stamps confusion and accountability.
Edge-to Edge Cloud Security

Enterprise Cloud Computing – Having talked about Enterprise Cloud Computing as "The Infrastructure's Ultimate Revenge" in 2009, the CIO of the National Reconnaissance Office, Jill Tummler Singer, will be returning to Cloud Expo this coming June to review the intervening two years and ask if government organizations and corporations are riding a real wave of IT change to the future...or whether both government and corporate IT is caught up in a water spout so far off the shore that no one will feel its impact? Her session will be titled: "Is Enterprise Cloud Computing a Tidal Wave of Change?"
Federal Government Cloud Computing – "What Does GovCloud Mean to the Global IT Industry?" is the question that will be asked by ever-popular Cloud Expo speaker
