This fast-moving industry Power Panel held at Cloud Computing 2009 West was moderated by Conference Chair Jeremy Geelan. The power panel was composed of Jonathan Bryce,CTO & Founder of The Rackspace Cloud; Barry X Lynn, Chairman and CEO of 3Tera, Inc.; Irfan Khan, CTO of Sybase; Dave Cohen, Chief Architect of the Cloud Infrastructure Group at EMC; Ken Gardner, executive chairman for SOASTA; Rick German, Co-founder, CEO and Chief Technology Officer of Stoneware, Inc.; and Brian Clark is Vice President, Product Management at Objectivity.

Jonathan Bryce is CTO & Founder of The Rackspace Cloud. He started his career working as a web developer for the managed hosting giant, Rackspace. During his tenure at Rackspace, Bryce and co-worker Todd Morey had a vision to build a sophisticated web hosting environment where users and businesses alike could turn to design, develop and deploy their ideal web site - all without being responsible for procuring the technology, installing it or making sure it is built to be always available. This vision, along with help from Rackspace, was turned into The Rackspace Cloud. The Rackspace Cloud is the home of Cloud Sites, Cloud Files and Cloud Servers, providing enterprise-grade hosting and storage services.
Barry X Lynn is Chairman and CEO of 3Tera, Inc. He has a storied career in data center innovation and a deep understanding of enterprise customers and applications. He has over 37 years of executive experience in the IT and financial services sectors in Fortune 100 companies and as an entrepreneur. Early in his career, he was with Wells Fargo, where he was executive vice president and head of Investment Operations before becoming chief information officer (CIO) of Wells Fargo and Company and president of Wells Fargo Technology Services. In 1995, while at Wells Fargo, he built the world's first Internet online banking system. He was also president of Wells Fargo Securities Clearance Corp. and founder and president of Wells Fargo Securities, Inc.
Irfan Khan is CTO of Sybase. He oversees all the technology offices in each of Sybase's business units. Together with architects residing within the technology offices, Khan ensures the customers' voice and needs of the market are reflected within the company's innovation and product development. In addition, he oversees Sybase technology evangelism efforts.
Dave Cohen is Chief Architect of the Cloud Infrastructure Group at EMC. He is responsible for the overall architectural design direction for EMC's Cloud Infrastructure Division. With a career spanning over 25 years, Cohen joined EMC's Cloud Infrastructure Group earlier this year. Prior to joining EMC, he worked in the Financial Services industry designing/building on large scale distributed systems. He was most recently a Senior Storage Strategist with Goldman Sachs and Merrill Lynch, where his focus was in the areas of low-latency and utility computing issues.
Ken Gardner, executive chairman for SOASTA, is an industry veteran with more than 30 years in the enterprise software industry. He is a six-time entrepreneur having previously been the founder and CEO of Istante (acquired by Oracle in December 2004); Sagent Technology (IPO in April 1999); ReportSmith (acquired by Borland in March 1994); and ViewPoint Systems (acquired by Knowledgeware in June 1992). His first startup, in 1985, was Tesseract Corporation where he was senior vice president of Technology. From 1978 to 1985, he worked in R&D at Tymshare, Inc.
Rick German is Co-founder, CEO and Chief Technology Officer of Stoneware, Inc. and has been the company's President and CEO since inception. He is one of the key architects of Stoneware's webOS and is heavily involved in the company's efforts to move Web Desktop Virtualization into the "cloud" computing space. Prior to founding Stoneware in 2000, German was the Vice President of System Engineering for Cornerstone Systems. He has a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems from University of Iowa.
Brian Clark is Vice President, Product Management at Objectivity. He has nearly 30 years of software industry experience, and is responsible for managing product development for Objectivity's distributed, cloud-ready data platform, Objectivity/DB. Before joining Objectivity in 1989, Clark worked at Automation Technology Products, providing leading tools in the MCAD market. Before that, he was with Project Management Services at International Computers Limited, one of Europe's leading computer companies at the time. He holds a B.S. degree in Computer Science from Sheffield University, England.
