BEVERLY HILLS, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 10/19/09 -- The most feared monsters in cinematic history have met their match! Watch out villains, here comes... Stan Helsing? From the executive producer of "Scary Movie," the horror comedy "Stan Helsing" will have exclusive theatrical engagements in New York, Los Angeles and other select cities starting the weekend of Friday, October 23rd. In the vein of spoof cinema like the "Austin Powers" and "Scary Movie" franchises, "Stan Helsing" lampoons contemporary film audiences' never-ending fascination with what makes our blood curdle. In addition, Anchor Bay Entertainment will release the hilarious horror-fest on DVD and high definition Blu-ray(TM) on October 27th.
"Stan Helsing" is a movie full of firsts including:
-- Leslie Nielsen in drag (he's never before been in drag on film... for a paying audience).
-- Michael Jackson parody post-death (I know... shameless).
-- President Barack Obama celebrating his Nobel Prize.
-- Parodies of the 6 biggest movie monsters of all time (Freddy, Jason, Chucky, Pinhead, Michael Myers and Leatherface) all in one movie!
-- The first movie in the history of cinema to equally offend (hold your applause) -- Jews, Christians, gays, women, little people, special ed. students, white supremacists, superheroes, nurses, Native Americans, African Americans, gypsies, rappers, ventriloquist dolls, Rottweilers, sex booth workers, the state of New Jersey, Louis Vuitton handbags, massage therapists, exotic dancers, cowboys, Johnny Cash, The Village People, karaoke, ravens, Asians, Kobe Bryant, Paul Giamatti, people with rickets, Clay Aiken, waitresses, transvestites, video store clerks...
Written and directed by Bo Zenga, "Stan Helsing" follows the misadventures of hapless video store clerk Stan Helsing (Steve Howey) and his friends as they make what should be a routine video delivery before going to a Halloween party. Instead, Stan and company find themselves stranded in Stormy Night Estates where Stan learns his true destiny: he's a descendant of the legendary monster-hunter, Van Helsing.
With his motley crew in tow -- including his best friend Teddy ("Saturday Night Live" star Kenan Thompson), he will battle these monsters. The ultimate confrontation between good and evil will require immeasurable courage, grim determination and... a flair for karaoke! (whaat?).
In addition to riotously spoofing cinema's greatest scream icons, "Stan Helsing" also features comedy film legend Leslie Nielsen ("Airplane!," the "Naked Gun" films, "Scary Movie 3 and 4") as well as a surprise cameo that will frighten the Republican Party!
The "Stan Helsing" DVD and Blu-ray(TM) will include:
-- Behind-the-scenes coverage no monster hunter should be without.
-- A behind-the-velvet-ropes commentary track with the cast and
filmmaker.
-- The exclusive featurette, "Killer Parody: The Making of Stan Helsing"
-- Insider-only, extended, alternate & deleted scenes -- all guaranteed
to make you howl with laughter!
-- The filmmaker's original storyboards detailing how the action scenes
were conceived and shot.
-- Exclusive high-resolution production stills.
-- SRP is a shocker of a deal at $26.97 for the DVD and $34.98 SRP for
the Blu-ray(TM).
"Stan Helsing" was produced by Bo Zenga with make-up special effects by the legendary Todd Masters ("A Nightmare on Elm Street"), cinematography by Robert New ("Prom Night"), production design by Chris August ("I, Robot").
Boz Productions is a Los Angeles based feature film and television production company and the producing entity for writer/director/producer Bo Zenga. Past credits include box office champ "Scary Movie," "Soul Plane," "Turistas," and Santa Barbara Film Festival winner "Everything's Jake." They're currently prepping horror franchise "Mischief Night" and the romantic comedy "How To Cheat On Your Spouse and Not Get Caught."
