EMC Buys Kazeon

Kazeon will become a part of EMC's Content Management and Archiving Division

In its second purchase in two days EMC said late Tuesday that it was buying eDiscovery shop Kazeon Systems Inc, whose software is used by corporations, law firms, government agencies and legal service providers.

Terms were not disclosed and are too immaterial to impact EMC’s results this year. The transaction is expected to close by the end of September.

EMC said Kazeon would enable it to offer end-to-end in-house eDiscovery and litigation readiness solutions as part of its SourceOne family. Kazeon searches electronically stored information that resides anywhere in the enterprise including content on laptops, desktops, content management repositories (like EMC’s Documentum), Microsoft SharePoint and Exchange, Lotus Domino, e-mail archives and file shares.

Kazeon is available as an appliance, and can be used for early case assessment to determine a case’s merit and legal strategies, possibly avoiding costly legal fees. It’s supposed to avoid the problem of over-collection which often leads to high retention and review costs. It’s not supposed to lose things either and can be used for policy management.

Kazeon will become a part of EMC's Content Management and Archiving Division.

EMC said Monday that it bought FastScale Technology.
